CompTech Spring review and more pics

here we go.....

as i mentioned late last week, the ride is definitely stiffer than stock. it is a nice upgrade for the people who are looking for a little more sporty suspension. i drove the car down to the NJ shore ("beach" to the other folks out there) and put in at least 200 miles.

steering is also more responsive. when i first picked up the car from the dealer, it felt slightly heavier. it's something that a driver gets used to in just a matter of a couple hours.

the stiff ride is very unnoticeable when driving on very smooth roads. you really start noticing the upgrade in the twisties and those jug handle turns that NJ is known for. as for my tastes, i would probably get a set of bilstein shocks when they become available for the 3G TL. overall, the ride is pretty close to my old 2001 BMW 530i with the sport package. i think the bilsteins would definitely make them pretty even.

i would consider the CompTech springs a must have for drivers looking for a sportier ride for the 3G TL. the ride is just right for daily commuting. it is not too harsh and it is not too soft. the stock shocks compliments the springs well. you can use them up and just upgrade to better ones when they're worn out.

the next order of upgrades will probably be the shocks and then the 18" wheels. it just seems that there isn't much of a selection for 6MT TLs. the brembos seem hard to clear.

for pics from this past weekend, the link to 17 pics are below. i just washed the car. look a little close and you can see reflections off the car. i can't wait to wax it. maybe this weekend.

Where did you get the springs installed? And how much were the springs and the installation? Thanks!

Your car looks great...

3putt, what do you think of just the bilsteins, and not the springs, as an upgrade.

Answers to the Q's...

Park Ave Acura in NJ has the springs in stock. You can just order from them directly. You can also do what i did and had them install it as well. The springs are about $250. The install was about the same price.

As far as the tires, they are the stock HPT's. Bridgestone Potenza RE 030.

Bilsteins are not yet available for the 3G TL. Unless you know something that i do know.

^^ so your suspension is covered under warrenty? since u got them from the dealership?

how is the body roll? can u notice less when taking sharp turns?
i know on the stock suspension the ride feels kinda bouncy when taking sharp turns and you hit a bump the car jumps a bit....have you noticed anything like that on the comptechs?

btw your car looks really nice with the drop..

Nice review, 3PUTT! If I hadn't been able to get the A-Spec, I would've done Comptechs, as I did on my 2G TL. I can definitely vouch for them.

traffic, what traffic?? i am lucky enough to not hit too much traffic in NJ. i have flex hours and avoid the mad rush hour.

to answer your question, i really do not see what the suspension will do in traffic since you are not moving. for stop and go, you really cannot tell. it subtle just like your vtec. i'm sure braking is helped a litle bit with the stiffer springs.

i thought the correct term is BENNY, which stands for Bergen, Essex, Newark, and New York.

bottom line, i really think the CT spring upgrade should be one of the top upgrades that a 3G TL owner should have. the price is just right. the way i did it makes it even a little better since it is covered under my warranty since the dealer supplied and installed them.

I called Park Ave for the Comptech Springs and install they said I need a camber kit as well and alignment. Altogether was like 1200 dollars. You just did springs and no camber kit and only cost you 500 dollars????? Nice look on the car.

no camber kit is needed and should not cost that much for the install and alightment, looks like they are refering to 2nd gen TL info

Yes, ask for Pete or Tom in Service...they will be able to set you straight..the only thing you would need is an alignment.
