Question

the 6.5 wheel on the TLS in addition to the shape of it being slightly different than the CLS is to help protect it from getting scratched as easily..

the width of the tire is the same on both wheels.. the .5 difference should give the TL a bit more "protection"..

but who knows.. maybe it was cheaper to use a skinnier wheel??

There was also an issue of the CL-S wheel rubbing on the TL, a rumor we dispelled. See my sig....

There have been several threads on this topic. Here's one from a ways back. Although the rumor was floated around that the rim size on the TL-S was reduced to 6.5" for crash-worthiness, it still makes no sense to me that the Canadian-spec TL-Ss have 7.0" rims. Take a look:

I thought the reason why they are different is because CL-S had a bigger rear quarter panel.....!!!!????

Hey Matt, did you see this these threads? I believed SSMAN66's original reasons behind the difference in width due to crash worthiness on the thread you linked. It seems logical and it makes sense IMO. But these threads answers the mystery once and for all.

Yep. I did see those but forgot to link to them. It definitely makes sense that all TL-Ss have the same size rims. It still doesn't quite answer the question as to why the CL-Ss have the 7.0" wide rims, unless it was because the CL-S is considered to be more sporty vs the 4-dr TL-S.

I have CLS rims, which are chromed. I got the rims in return of my TLS rims. No problem so far. The installer mentioned that it IS 7 instead of 6.5.

Happy motoring.

That really doesn't make cents $$$ for acura to make 2 different rim widths at all? why spend the extra $ acura :p both rims look pretty much the same!!!
