BWR Coilovers Finally a Full Review

Hey Guys,

I bit the bullet in a way for everyone and picked up a set of the BWR SS Coilovers from JDMinstock in Arizona. To be completely honest, I was pretty nervous about ordering these and then got even more nervous when I had to wait nearly two months for them to get back in stock in the US. But JDMinstock was great and two day air'd them to me when they came in and should be getting a bit of a refund for the wait too which is nice.

Ok the coilovers, they came very well packaged but the rears do come disassembled which made the first adjustment on the ride height pretty interesting but they are easy to adjust and I had no problems.

Quality: So far I would say they are of great quality. All the materials look great and they have good hardware used on them too.

Features: Pretty simple to be honest. Nice because the ride height and spring rate is separate but no camber adjustment or damper/rebound adjustment either. Now I can't speak for longevity quality just yet but initially I would be confident to say that I would buy these over the Tein Basics and the Nex coilovers.

Ride: Not bad at all. Actually a bit softer setup than I would have thought for a coilover but in no way too soft. I actually think they are in a way, perfect. Damper/rebound setting is probably a great mix of stiffness needed for handling and softness needed for everyday life. I bet that with this mid range damper/rebound setting, these last a long time too. I haven't had it corner weighted yet nor have I adjusted the spring rates but even now I like the way it handles.

Overall: I'd probably buy them again. But if they were any more than what I paid for them, I would have just waited and saved up for the megan's.

So, my is SO FAR SO GOOD.

Will try to get some pics up soon but I think we all know what a lowered TL looks like right?

Post up any questions you got.

Its got what I would say is an acceptable amount of travel meaning it isn't disgustingly bouncy but isn't lazy/loose either. These are sold as a street coilover whereas the spring rates and dampers are designed to be able to cope with shitty streets. But I was just on the track with them last week too and they were fantastic. I guess I don't any quanatative way to measure these things but overall I really like the "feel" of these coilovers.

Are those 17" rims? Also, by he way you described the ride, it sounds liek they ride on the rough side.

This thread's more than a year old. But how are they holding up so far, considering your car isn't really a street car anymore?

Also, do you still keep all your travel regardless of ride height, or do you lose suspension travel the lower you go?

They are fine for the street but I am eagerly looking for a more trackable upgrade. I've actually already sold my BWR's.

Ride height is completely independent of spring rate and suspension travel. No Tein Basics here.

So about the KW variant 1, can anyone comment on them. I am looking for some reviews from fellow tl owners.

How much are these? The Tein SS and the HT Spec 2 come in between $900 and $950

I'm interested in what you end up with. I've found that in the FWD world it's not uncommon to end up with rear springs as stiff as the front for track cars to balance things out. I had my rears custom made and they're within 10% of the fronts. Part of that was because of the 28mm fsb.

Were the BWRs just too soft for track use? I was wondering because I figured as the car was lightened the suspension would effectively become stiffer and stiffer.

I'm somewhat interested because I might end up with a new 335d so I would be able to get a little crazy with the TL.

Yes they were just too soft, more so the dampers than the springs. But overall, even with the diet and increased effective stiffness, they weren't what I wanted in the end.

Working on that right now but I'm definitely a fan of BC.

You know I wouldn't mind getting some feedback on the HTSpec V2 Type-II. I have tracked them and felt they did pretty well. Good body control at speed and the front end takes a lot of abuse without washing out...wanna give it a shot? Hit me up if you do.

I bought a set for my 04. They ride smooth, definitely softer than stock but not horribly soft. I lowered mine about 2.25 inches front 2 inches rear. I wish there was an adjustable damper setting but for the price I got them for I cannot say I got a bad deal. They're a great set for daily and they're built strong.

What wheels are those? They look similar to the Altima SER wheels

Hey I have these same coilovers on my 04 AT. Are you experiencing any vibrations at all? I feel vibrations when putting a load on at low speeds and highway cruising speeds. I was told it could be my half-shafts, but its been doing this since day 1 when I installed them, and even worse now that I went lower. Anything you can be able to help me out with? I was told that's just how Blackworks are, but since you actually have them on your car you should be able to give me a more detailed personal opinion.

Bwr coils are awesome !

Having experience with all the brands available for the TL, I'm 200% sure that the BWR coils are the best coils for the TL which are non adj. !

If bwr made some adj. stiffness coilovers they " might " be the best coil available for the TL.

These coils make the car handle , feel and drive better than stock.
Many people who have driven in one of my TL's which I put these on, or customers I installed these on....were amazed !
There a street coilover though, not best suited for hardcore track use.

And to the person complaining about the vibrations : it's the TL design.
Axels do NOT like that angle.

A) raise car a bit until you find that perfect spot
B) get bigger rims / tires to fill gap
C) just live with it

Make sure your camber is corrected and you get a PROPER alignment....this will HELP but not still 100% if you want to be slammed !
