what is a rack and pinion?, i remember some one sayin that you need to change it when you get larger rims. ive always heard this rack and pinion, but never found out

 

Rack and Pinion is a Steering mechanism.

It is designed to amplify the movement of your steering wheel so you don't have to turn your steering wheel so much to get from lock to lock.

I have never heard about having to change anything like that when you get larger rims, unless you go so wide that you need more power to turn the wheels meaning you will need a different toothed pinion gear.
