19" Wheel Issues??

19" Wheel Issues??
Whats the deal with people worrying about ride comfort and pot holes...? I can understand pot holes, but why does it seem to be more of an issue with a 19" wheel
Also whats the deal with ride comfort? If its a good quality wheel then there should be no problem with ride comfort, right?

personal experiences..
its more of an issue because the sidewall height is small and pot holes are a big deal..you might drive through a pot hole and not even notice it or feel and you can get a bent lip. you can try to avoid all the pot holes you want and sometimes its just not possible because there might be a car in the next lane and driving slow on unknown roads is a must. ride comfort is not so bad but it is noticeable if you hit a large bump. couple of more things.....
- tires are little more expensive
- some mechanics don't even have a torque wrench and just use the damn air gun at full blast to mount the rim.
- the alignment shop will refuse to do your alignment.
- might be wrong on this one but most 19s are directional..you can rotate but would need to take tire off the rim and mount on the other rim.
- most shops don't carry the size you need so its best to keep at least 1 new spare at home..in case something goes wrong
i'm not trying to scare you away from 19s lol just telling you what you might run into.

I just put 19's on last week...bent the right rear rim on a huge pot hole today on the way home from work. hoping tire is OK. Love the wheels...they look great...hoping I was just very unlucky today and it won't happen again. ride is sportier....takes a little while to get used to it....I also added wheel spacers

245/45-17 has a sidewall height 4.34"
245/40-18 3.85"
245/35-19 3.37"
Some use 235/35-19 3.23"
So you can see, not much of the tire can be deflected easily to retain a soft ride and absorb the harsh impacts.

as everybody is saying it's mainly the sidewall shortage.....it doesnt matter the size really ........if i am not mistaken i had the 3G TL and the height for stock was 45 height example 245/45/17 in which a 19 will leave you with a 35 height example 245/35/19 ........i currently have the 4G TL and run 20's...which left me with the 35 height...................you just have to be more careful when riding......as u said a quality wheel is a plus...........i have already bent the rim lip on 1 wheel ...nothing drastic or even noticeable but i am the type of person that pays close attention to detail .....especially on my vehicle......
meanwhile i have hit pot holes and bumps at high speeds and haven't done any major damage to the wheels or tires....surprisingly..........living in N.Y you will always hit a pothole or bump no matter how careful you are.................
on that note 19's are safe....as you said get a quality wheel ..........and quality tire......as far as ride quality the ride gets stiffer and you will feel more of the road especially on rougher surfaces but other than that the ride should be smooth as long as the fitment is correct........lighter weight wheels are also better when upsizing..........

I just started driving on 19s this week too. I tend to drive slower and pay more attention on the road and pot holes. My gas millage improved too because I am not driving like a speed racer haha Ride quality went down a little, but just a little. I am also lowered so when it all adds up, you can't really expect it to ride like a stock car. I am not regretting it at all either, love the way the car looks

No way getting around ride comfort with that size wheel. Like others have said the sidewall has no room for impacting pot holes and other ruts that may be in the roads. As far as lowering I hear SWIFT makes excellent springs that do not impact ride quality as they are meant to go on stock shocks.

Thanks guys....
Im debating on ordering some 19 x8.5 +35 work varianza T1S wheels from RavSpec for 3G TL base. What are your thoughts on running a 245/40/19 tire? I know most people go with 245/35...

^ those are nice rims but in no way should u run a 245/40 it would look so odd and not only that be way taller than stock so it would throw off your speedo readings...
really if you go with a 235/35/19 its not that bad... i have a 215/35/19 on my front and hit a pot hole pretty hard the other day and nothing happened...
yes a thinner walled tire does ride a lil bit rougher but its part of the trade off of lookin stylish
