WTF scumbags

Ok so I have had my 04 TL for a little over 2 years now. I bought it running "fine" with 23K and now have 54K on it. About 2 months ago i noticed a slipping in the clutch, and this week had it replaced. When the guy took the car apart he noticed that the transmission had been out of the car, and the clutch had already been taking apart. On top of that there were bolts missing that easily showed the mechanic that someone had been in there before him. Seeing as the dealership said this car was fine and sold it to me under warranty (which is up) is there anything they should do for me? Yes i still need to call them, but i was wondering if anyone has run into this type of problem before and what they did to fix it. Any advice is greatly appreciated

What are you asking?
Have your mechanic to replace the clutch and you are good to go.
I assume you are the 2nd or 3rd owner. if the first or second owner didnt know how to operate a manual transmission properly, then it is common to see the clutch being worn and replaced.

What I gather from your post, is that this is the second time that it has been replaced. As long as your mechanic does a good install, then it wouldnt matter if it was replaced before.
No worries.

I guess my issue with the whole thing is that no one had this on record, and the person who took the car apart before was so careless that they didn't replace all the bolts. Seems to me that a transmission is a pretty vital piece to a car and not fully attaching all the pieces to something like that seems dangerous and half-ass.

Mrn22- I totally agree with you! I would be pissed about them not telling me anything was replaced, even if under warranty. How many miles? Good luck with the new clutch. Anything aftermarket, or just OEM?

That's the evil of buying a used car. Even with CarFax, you'll never really know what's been done to a car until you get into it.

If I blow a clutch I'll be replacing it myself. If I sell it to someone and they don't say anything when they dump it, can you blame the next person?

You've just got to lick your wounds and move on.

This Although I would've been a little ill about the few bolts missing.

They may not have known. If the guy smoked the clutch, knew it wouldn't be replaced under warranty, and had his cousin Bubba do it for the price of parts and a case of beer, it won't show up in any records as having been replaced, and so there's no way for the dealership to have known, beyond disassembling the transmission to look for themselves, which I'm sure you'll agree would be silly.

When I got my car out of the body shop, from Acura, one of my wheels were missing two lug nuts. I don't trust anybody with my cars. If I have to take my car to the shop for something, I'll stand there and watch them do the work. I like doing my own work for these reasons. At least if something goes wrong, I know I'm at fault.

The car has about 54 thousand on it. I went with the OEM clutch after reading many bad things about aftermarket parts such as the exedy. It is good that i am having a trusted person repair my car instead of some jackass at the dealership (and for over half the price)

How in the world would a dealership know what has been done to a car?

If the car was traded at dealer A in FL the sent to Auction and dealer B buys it and takes it to GA.
They would have no reason to think that anything was wrong once it went through their local inspection and routine service.

^ all dealers have access to warranty work done on the car, that is how they know. the other possibility is that the car was flagged for warranty being voided for some reason

So you are telling me that Bob's Used Car Mart - Your Buy Here Pay Here Depot, has access to this?

I don't think so.
