Hey guys, sure this may have happened or it will happen to you. But my hood all at once won't stay up. Any solutions? ....and the little blue pill is out of the question

i just noticed this happen to mine. but it was funny because i was parked in reverse on the drive way and when i openned the hood it wont stay up. it does stay up on if im on flat ground or if im facing the garage door on the drive way. i guess the weight of the hood when facing downwards is too much for the 5 year old dampers.

First I thought I was losing my mind when I knew it was up while I was changing the oil, when inside the house, come back and the hood was down. I am having almost the same problem with the trunk, it won't open high enough when you press the release button, but it will stay up.....go figure.

Wait, the trunk doesn't have dampers =P

The trunk button doesn't open the trunk, it just pops it, then you have to open it yourself.

Yes I know, before the release button would allowed the trunk to completely disengage from the latch leaving a half inch to one inch opening. Now you wouldn't notice if the trunk has open......

check the garage, there is a diy on this if you really need it.

this is one of the easiest parts you can change, if it takes more than a minute for both sides you are doing it wrong.

Check out rockauto.com.
Under Body Exterior, look for Lift Supports

They have them for about $14 each.

I used to just clamp a vise grip to the worn out dampers on my Saab 900 to keep the hatchback open. Any damage it did to the smooth (chromed) finish of the slides didn't matter since it was shot anyway. That was appropriate for a quirky Swedish car. For the TL I'd get the new dampers for sure.
