Window Won't Roll Up

I can open my front passenger window, but it doesn't want to close. When I hit the button, it goes up a few inches then drops back down again. It takes a lot of tries to get it all the way up. Has anyone else had this happen?

It's an '04 so out of warranty - but I'm not complaining. This is the first problem I've had with my car, not even a rattle, and I have almost 80,000 miles on it.

check the door sill runners and remove the panel to check for any blockage in the glass channels, if the window encounters too much stress / resistance it'll go down to protect itself and protect you from you getting your finger caught while it's going up.. so basically there is too much resistance.. try to look for anything that may be hanging it up and maybe use channel grease, otherwise the sensor might be malfunctioning but doubt it.

Thanks! woot427 that's really helpful, esp. the part that says -

Out of warranty: Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
