Wierd Braking Noise

i recently replaced my rotors and put new pads on. Now my rear brakes make a clicking noise whenever i press on the brakes. Does anyone have an idea of whats wrong? It is kind of embarrassing pulling next to some people clicking.

the sound only occurs when i brake. It is a loud clicking coming from the rear brakes. Sounds like the spinning wheel on the price is right. The pedal feels ok it might require a little more push to stop. The pull is good its just that noise.

Wow this is exactly what my car is doing!! Its clicking faster than 1 click per wheel rotation. Like the wheel on "wheel of fortune". But I am pretty sure its only doing it on the passenger side. And it seems like its getting worse the longer I go (at least its not any quieter). But my right rear does the clicking sound even while just rolling. And today when I applied the brake, for the first time it got louder.. like its getting worse. It used to just do it when I was rolling..

I bought these rotors below and ceramic pads at Auto-Zone.

Only the rear are clicking. but hey! As a side note, besides the clicking, these pads are getting eaten up by the rotors. The bevel on the drilled holes have a real sharp edge! Just like sanding down my pads. I'm thinking about different rotors while I have some pad left! haha

this happened to me when i installed my slotted/ drilled and ceramic pads. it got quieter after i drove a couple thousand miles. no pre-mature wear so i figure thats the sounds the pads + drilled/ slotted rotors make

I have not identified the problem yet. I have not heard it recently because I have not listened for it. I have to roll the window down to listen for it, and its been so hot I have not checked it. But I have not done anything to fix it nor found what would cause the ticking sound. It only does it on the passenger side. weird.

maybe the best way is to replace all the rotors and pads? this sound has been getting worse for me and it is driving me crazy - if anyone finds a solution, please post it!

ya mine was getting worse too, rather than better. And I noticed it was getting worse just after a thousand miles or so. I think the rear rotors I got from brakemotive is the problem. But again, it's only doing it on one side, which doesn't make sense right now. Like it seems the driver side would do it too. But I guess it's not to unusual to have this happen as other people have noticed it as well.

hey guys, so i went to the shop and got this fixed. i'm not exactly sure what they did but here is the job description of what was performed:

FOUND NOISE FROM FRONT BRAKE PADS. REMOVED PADS AND APPLIED MOLYCOAT TO THE SHIMS .CLEANED CALIPER HARDWARE. ROAD TEST OK

this was NOT done at the dealership - it was done at an auto repair shop and the total cost was about 65 dollars. i hope this will help you guys get rid of this problem!

something tells me my problem and the one from qtrung is not a moly grease problem. Plus I bought an extra can of moly grease and laid it on good. So, I was generous with it. Plus they dont put grease on the pads. They just put it on the backs of the pad where the pad rests. But still the clips on those things are like vise grips. It holds it that pads very well. Your noise may have been coming from somewhere different than mine. dunno.

I think I figured out what the clicking noise is. to isolate the source, I did this: First I took off the wheel and rotated the rotor and still heard the clicking so it wasnt tire or wheel related or how it was mounted. Now I knew the noise coming from either inside the rotor or had something to do with the brake caliper. So, I took off the brake caliper and and rotated the rotor and I still heard some clicking. So then I took off the front pad and turned the rotor and I heard no clicking noise. So I narrowed it down to the pads. I thought it was the just the front pad, but then I removed the back pad and replaced the front pad. And still I heard no noise. so basically when 1 pad is on (front or back) there is no noise, but when both pads were installed and when I squeezed the pads together against the rotor and turn it, then the clicking noise came back. So, I think the clicking noise is coming from the air pockets that are created between the pads as the rotor turns. See, these rotors I have, are drilled and slotted but the holes go completely through the rotor to the other side. So, I don't really see a way to fix it. However, I was able to make the caliper relax a bit more which allowed the pads to not sit quite so tightly against the rotor when I was not pressing on the brake. So i decided to reinstall the hardware and put it up since I figured that nothing is being harmed by hearing this clicking noise. But it is a nuisance. So to readjust or "relax" the tension somewhat on the brake pads when the pedal is not being depressed is nearly impossible because there is no adjustment in the mounting position of the caliper. -except for the slight slack that is in the holes where the screws go. So instead of letting gravity pull the caliper down, I held it up and then tightened the screws. So when i put it back together, I turned the rotor and I didnt hear any clicking. hmm interesting. And during the test drive, I didnt hear any clicking while I was driving but when i applied the brake, the clicking was again present. However, each time I release the brake pedal, it stopped clicking. So Its "Better" but not fixed. So now, I think I need to replace the rear rotors and that should fix it. The good thing is that, nothing is being damaged by driving on it. So, thats good to know. But I still cant figure out why the other 3 rotors are not making this clicking sound. The only other thing I found was that the ceramic pad was a bit broken on one edge. This could have something to do with it, but based on the way I isolated the problem, I dont think that is what is clicking. because it would have clicked when I had one or the other pad installed. But it only clicked when both pads were on. So, anyways, it has something to do with the pad sitting on the rotor. that all I can tell you.

I replaced all 4 Autozone Ceramic brake pads and replaced only the rear rotors and the clicking noise is gone and braking is so much better. It seems like I dont have to press as far with the net setup. I think they must be gripping better. Not sure why. But its all perfect now. I replaced my pads with O'Rielly Best brand Ceramic pads.
