What's this part next to the starter?
I concluded today that my starter needed replacing. Removing the two long bolts that hold it in was no problem. There was much difficulty in removing the nut that attaches the solenoid wire, though (mostly due to a missing wrench). When I finally got a hold of it and popped it loose, the wrench smacked into the connection right next to it, and the whole thing broke clean off. See pictures.
What is this part, so I know what to get? And what's the best way to remove and replace it? Is it just all part of the bigger starter assembly? I have this feeling that I just haven't taken off the whole starter yet. Can someone please confirm? Thanks.
If I'm not mistaken, this is the whole starter, meaning I just broke a piece of the part I'm removing anyway:

That's part of the solenoid that will come with the new starter/solenoid. Just remove the 2 wires (large and small)from the solenoid, 2 bolts for the starter and it will come out. Looks like you removed the 2 long bolts that hold the housing/armature to the front housing. Wrong 2 bolts.
Yep, just to update anyone else who comes across this...I had just removed (and broken) part of the solenoid attached to the starter. The starter itself is much bigger, and connects with a top and bottom bolt. I used a 17mm socket for both, and I needed a breaker bar to loosen the top one, I believe. Man, that was a pain. But once everything was off, it was an easy out-and-in. I could probably do the same job again in under 30 minutes. Thanks for the reply, Turbonut.
