Any 5w-20 oil, conventional or synthetic. Whatever you're choice, there will be no problem.

NGK Iridiums.. and as far as the oil's concerned.. my preference is Mobil 1 - Extended Performance or Royal Purple. Amsoil is good as well.. it's really preference.. they're all good. Oil filter's are another story.. I try to use Mobil 1 filters but I don't like spending more than $8 on a filter especially when I change out the filter more than I do the oil.

There's not suppost to be a whine and not all TL's whine.. it's not normal. It could be a couple different things from the torque converter to your drivebelt / drive pulleys.

Try to be more detailed with the symptoms. Is it real loud? change when you move the steering wheel? what RPM range? miles? all the time or sometimes? always noticed or just started occuring? etc..

Is the intake & exhaust stock? Do you know the maintenance history? If not then you should definitely go down to Acura and have them do a 3x3 ATF service done. You can do it yourself if you're inclined.. It's fairly easy.

Can you pinpoint the general location of the whine? does it sound like it's coming from the passenger side or right underneath the vehicle? Does the whine occur in that RPM range when the car is in neutral? only when it's cold or when the car's warmed up too?

stock.. only in drive and not associated with turning the vehicle - only accelerating in 900 - 2500 RPM's or when the car decelerates into the 1500 RPM range.. hmm.. it's either your torque converter or one of your drive pulleys. Post up a new thread and put all the specific info. I suggest you take my aforementioned advice about getting the ATF changed out with a 3x3 service. There's DIY here in the Azine Garage.

Mine has done this since new. It's engine speed related, only does it in drive, and hasn't gotten any louder in 74,000 miles.

It has to be the input shaft/bushing/torque convertor since it's engine speed related, gets slightly louder with more load, and doesn't change when it shifts gears. Changing to the thicker Amsoil ATD (not ATF) helped a lot.

As for the best 5w-20, I have to say Redline hands down.

I personally run a straight synthetic 30wt due to my mild winters and hot summers.

ANY oil is fine. Regarding tune-up, Acura doesn't recommend changing spark plugs until 120k. It doesn't hurt to replace them earlier, though. Stick with the OEM plugs if you do. This is a good time for you to seafoam your car, if you're going to change your spark plugs.

I don't want to be rude but it's impossible, especially with oil of the same weight. Even going from a 0w-20 to a 20w-50 would be hard to feel.

It takes at least 10 hp for even the most well tuned butt dynos to feel. Do you think an oil change added 10+ hp?

I did mine at 40K and the idle improved. They were so hard to get out I thought I was going to rip the threads out of the heads. I can't imagine how bad they would be stuck in there at 120K.

you know.. I never considered using Redline.. I may read more about it and try it out.. I'm at 15% & 5400 miles as of yesterday.

btw.. have you analyzed your ATF? any signs of TC wear? I have been considering putting a couple thousand miles more on the Z1, getting it analyzed and swapping to ATD, then doing an analysis every 12k.

I have a sample of used ATD that's been sitting sealed up for a year. Keep forgetting to send it in lol. I'm a little worried about aluminum from the TC but the noise has not gotten worse since new.

Check out the Redline specs, you will probably be impressed. The 5w-20 has a higher HT/HS than many 30wts. So you get the pumpability of a 20wt and the protection under high temperature/high load of a very good 30wt. It also has a healthy dose of ZDDP, not really necessary for the TL but it's a good anti-wear additive.

Maybe it just my imagination but i do feel my car pick up faster tho. I am not sure but thats how i feel. And no your not being rude , you're speaking from your experience? But i do like this setup those, dont want to go back to convention oil again.
