Wet sanding issue!

I tried to wet sand a little rock chip after touching it up. I was very hesitant to do so since I have never done this before. I followed all the tips on many web sites out there. I used 2000 grit and rubbed VERY lightly. well, I have a small spot around my chip now that appears "rough". Not shiny like the rest of the finish. I only rubbed it once or twice VERY lightly and checked to make sure I wasnt' doing any damage. Well, I guess I did? Any way to fix this without making it worse? I tried Meguiars paint cleaner and scratch X, didn't take it out completely. any other suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks.

you need to get it buffed out, I don't think you did any damage, the sand paper did it's job now all you need is a good buff job.

take it to a good detail shop, a high speed buffer will be needed.

Get a wax with a cleaner and you'll be able to do it by hand. Will take a lot of pressure and rubbing, but you'll get the marks out.

don't use a cleaner! You need a compound to take out the small sanding marks. The least is the best way to start. When I have to wetsand, I start out with scratch X like you used, if that doesn't work, I step it up to some Four Star Swirl Mark Remover, if that doesn't work I step it up to Four Star Medium Cut Compound. By then they are gone.

Hopefully you sanded in one direction .. if so get out the ScratchX again and a terry towel and use it across the sanding grain .. it will take a while but the terry will help with the cut needed.

Try using a rubbing compound, like turtle wax rubbing compound. That will fix your problem, then use a polish on top of that and should be good to go.

Be very careful with this stuff ... you can create more issues than your curing .. and what "polish" are you suggesting he use?

I'd recommend getting some polishing compound. You want to always start with a lower grit (your 2000 grit sandpaper) and then work up. Polishing compound on a slightly damp applicator should work. Follow that with you Scratch X or Nu Polish. Don't forget your wash and wax!
