Weird hesitation HELP!
Weird hesitation HELP!
Hey guys, new to this forum. Trying to help out my girlfriend with her '04 TL.
Anyways, when you first start driving it, around 10-20mph or maybe its the 1-2 shift the car will start bogging or hesitating and it only lasts for about 5 seconds or so. Sometimes it's worse than others. Her intake tube had a big rip in it so I figured that's what it was coming from. Well I put a new tube on and also NGK plugs in it. It seemed like it fixed the problem at first but then I noticed it came back. It seems like the lighter you accelerate the worse the hesitation is too. Her car has 114k on it and it's an automatic. We're really hoping it's not the trans but i'm hoping some of you guys will have some insight on this problem. Thanks in advance!

It sounds like that TL needs some maintenance.
New filters every 30K Miles
New trans fluid every 30K miles
Brake fluid every 2-3 years
Coolant every 8yrs/105K miles
Timing belt 8yrs/105K miles
Spark Plugs 8yrs/105k miles
Does your gf run premium fuel? When is the last time a fuel cleaner was used? I'd recommend redline SI-1 in the gas tank to clean up some carbon and gunk.
The trans fluid should be pinkish red on a white napkin/towel. If it's darker than that you'll need to change it. You can only drain 3 quarts at a time and the trans holds 9 quarts. You can have a dealer do a complete flush with a machine that only pumps new fluid into the trans as the trans spits the old fluid into the machine.
I'd recommend using Honda/Acura DW1 transmission fluid and adding some lubegard platinum for extra protection. If you buy a case of DW1 from honda they usually give a discount.
DO NOT USE A FLUSH WHERE THEY CLEAN THE TRANS WITH DETERGENTS OR HIGH PRESSURE!!!! This can damage the clutch packs on an already fragile car.
You could also replace the pressure switches for 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. That has given huge improvements to folks as their car has aged.
Mentioned that there was a tear in the boot, I'd imagine some dirt/dust was sucked in along with giving the car inaccurate MAF readings. You could try cleaning the MAF sensor and also cleaning the intake by putting seafoam through the intake vac port.
