Water damage to screen?
Water damage to screen?
Hello all,
I have a 2004 tl with navigation. About 2 gallons of water spilled in the truck of our car. I did my best to get it all out.
Next day the screen had backlight but black/blank screen. The radio works, the time shows on the upper screen but no radio digits are shown.
Nothing on the main screen seems to be functioning.
I took out the dvd player in the truck to see if it had water damage. Seemed totally fine.
I have no idea where to start, any advices other than take it to the dealer?

So everyone is for sure its the player? Couldn't have been a fuse by it or anything small I am not seeing, right?
The real damage would be to get a new one to find out its not the issue :P
The dvd player has power and cd in/out buttons are functioning.
I will try to dry it some more.
Also, does it make sense that the radio is working but the radio digits arent showing on the small screen above the main screen when everything else is showing like the time?
Does it still mean its the dvd player?

It's most likely the nav unit in the trunk thats the issue. Drying it out won't hurt, but it's exceedingly likely that will not fix the problem long term. Liquids tend to really cause all sorts of odd issues to electronics. Even if the issues go away, don't expect it to be permanent. The nav unit is probably not very well conformal coated, especially since you are experiencing issues. All it takes is a tiny bit of corrosion that allows some signal to go where it shouldn't be and the unit is dead.
I'd be on the lookout for a replacement.

i got mine for $20 picked up locally and it's saved me from a very messy trunk a few times already from accidental spills.
