Washer Under the Oil Drain Bolt

I have only owed my car three months, and when I went to do my first oil changed I noticed that I had very minimal oil leaking from under the oil pan bolt. When I pulled the plug out, there was no washer. Ran to parts store and grabbed what they recommended for a washer, and the leak is now worse after a brand new synthetic oil change. Any advise as to what is the appropriate washer for under the oil pan bolt? I need to drain the brand new oil out, and replace this asap.

Thanks!

Hmmm... That's odd. I don't have a washer on my oil drain bolt and I don't have any problems with oil leaking. Weird.

Really?? That's not what I was hoping to hear... Maybe I need to drain it out again, and install with no washer and crank it down a little tighter. It was tight as hell though when I first changed it..

You may want to find the closest Acura or Honda dealer and get a new crush washer. You're supposed to replace them each time you do a change but most don't as they usually last quite awhile. It's a cheap attempt to fix your leak so you may want to try it. I though mine was bad also but I actually traced my leak back to my power steering

synthetic motor oil makes any leaks worse. make sure you're cleaning the surface properly. if a crush washer doesn't work get a new drain plug.

This.

A new drain plug is five bucks. A new washer is $0.50.

Small money to do it right.

If you still have a problem it's probably from some neanderthal over-tighting the plug in the first place.

dont over torque the bolt, it's only supposed to be torqued to 30 something ft/lbs. I've dealt with a stripped pan bolt in my old car. It was a pain.
