Vibration when gas is applied

Hey guys,

I own a 2004 TL 6-Speed. Car currently has 142k on it. All maintence is up to date.

-Rims are straight.
-New tires.
-Balancing and Alightment completed.

To make a long story short: Couple months back, the car started shaking violently when gas is applied at 60 mph+, but when you let go of the gas and just cruise( there is no vibration/shaking). My buddy who is a mechanic.. looked thru the car and noticed a Tie rod end that was loose, so i bought a new one and the vibration is still occuring. Its driving me nuts and i need to get it fixed.

His next idea is Axles... what do you guys think?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like axles to me. Do you know if they've ever been replaced? They wear out too.

I bought the car with 57k. I am no sure if they were ever replaced. I doubt it. if i replace them, i will do both already... just i am wondering what else it could be. Itll suck if i replace them and vibration will still be present.

The problem is that the joints in the axles are worn out. same thing is happening to mine now. theyll start to leak grease soon so get it fixed before you hear the clicking sound

In my TL when I hit the gas at low r's such as around 1300rpms i get a vibration too, could this be my axles. It never did this before.

Any updates on your issue?

Going in to day to have my Driver-side axle replaced (passenger-side done two weeks ago) and am praying that will fix this shimmy. Cant take it anymore! Lol

Glad to hear that. Did you go with OEM or Aftermarket axles?

Some TLs have a vibration caused by the motor mounts. A new, improved style motor mount is available and should be used when the mounts are replaced. Check your mounts for tears. My 08 still has some vibration at 1300-2000 rpm even after the motor mount change. It's due to go to the dealer on Thursday for an oil change. I'll have them check the inner CVs while it's there. Hy

I bought OEM axles from Acura. I wouldn't go AM...

My buddy that works at Lexus did the repair for me.... I am not sure about the bearing.. i just bought (2) brand new OEM driveshafts... The passenger side had a lot of play, so that was the cause of the severe vibration.

FYI:

Replacing my driver-side axle fixed my driveline vibration issue. Think my car drives smoother now than it ever has!
