Ugh, caliper bolt question

the brembo caliper bolt 19mm came out fine with a little help from cheater bar. i started them back by hand and screwed them all the way up to the edge by hand and started tightening.
BUT
I cant seem to get them to go in the last few turns. its says 125ft torque but i didn't want to force them any more until i got a second opinion should I expect a problem getting the last few turns ?

if you're having a problem with the last couple threads, then its most likely the threads are damaged, or theres debris in the threads

I got it I was just having a moment that i will never mention and try to forget. I would say its one of the easiest cars to change brakes and rotors on. the rotor screws I had to drill out but i see no use for them and will not replace them.

I'm dreading doing my front rotors on my 05 MT given all the stripped caliper horror stories. I know I can get inserts put in but the potential of having that problem means it's not a slam-dunk no problem kind of thing. I could easily be out of a drive for a couple days until I find a shop to do the inserts.

You can also buy a re manufactured brembo caliper from rockauto if that happens! They're not too expensive, but i dont remember the exact price

Most of the horror stories are from the brembo calipers. As for stock, if you use a good penetrating oil, give it some time to set, apply again, AND ESPECIALLY USE 6 POINT SOCKET AND NOT THE 12 POINTS, you will not have a problem. The 12 point sockets are the worst when it comes to getting stubborn bolts out. learned that the hard way.

Pat.. I said "my 05 MT"... well aware of MT vs AT brakes.
But truth about 6pt vs 12pt. IMO 12pt is only for rare circumstances (like when the space is so limited you can't get a 6pt on. Then you pray ...)

Yeah, I think you are correct. If it came to that I'd probably just get OE from an online dealer...and hope I don't need 2. If I only had a spare (3rd) car I could use in case. I'd tear into these in a second.

I too was afraid to do my front rotors, but my dad and I took our time doing it and we ended up getting lucky. We soaked the bolts in penetrating oil a few hours before we started. We initially tried to do them with a ratchet and tried working them back and forth but not a single one would start to come out smooth. After awhile we said f*ck it since I already had the helicoil inserts and switched to an 18v impact gun. We applied the same method with the impact (tighten and loosen back and forth a million times while still taking it relatively easy) and every singe bolt and caliper thread ended up being perfectly fine.

I think if we had tried to just back the bolts out in one shot it would have stripped every last one of them.

TL/DR: Lots of penetrating oil. Loosen and tighten the bolts 1/2 turn at a time if they don't come out easy right from the start and you might get lucky like I did.

very good ideas with the pb blaster soaking before trying to remove them. if they were stripped from the factory your probably screwed. I thought about cleaning up the threads with tap and die set(don't try tap and die unless you know what your doing) but i didn't do anything except take my time and not force anything i just started them back in by hand by hand and torque to 120 not 125. I wouldn't have had any problems at all if I had just looked closer at the torque wrench. i laugh now because it took 2 hours to do 1 wheel and 45 min for the other 3 wheels. I did forget to adjust my E-brake while I had the back wheels off oh well another day.

i forgot to add that the calipers had 180K miles on them yes 180,000. i was told it had original brakes when I purchased the car. I bought the car with 75k miles on it. I kept checking the pads and they still had some life in them. i only changed them because the rotors were warped pretty bad. I have never owned a car that the brakes lasted that long. I am not sure how to confirm if the pads were original

highly doubtful the pads were that old. There's no reason to be shocked calipers lasted that long! with proper maintenance, those parts can last forever! They are Hondas after all!
