Trunk barely opens now
I just installed a spoiler on my Tl and when I go to pop the trunk it really doesn't open at all. What do I need to do to get this fixed? I heard something about new trunk springs or something like that. Thanks in advance

If that doesn't work then visit your dealer and see if the list stiffer torsion bars for cars equipped with deck lid spoilers.
I would have avoided the spoiler altogether and instead spent the money on something that would actually improve vehicle performance.

This thread lists different springs for this purpose:

It might be worth paying the dealer to install them if a special tool truly is required.

Call your Acura, dealer order ONE of each (left and right side) and you're all set, "bud."

The Type-S Deck Lid Spoiler springs are these (and a good bit less expensive too):

From acuraoemparts.com:
Part #10 74871-SEP-A20 SPRING, R. TRUNK OPENER 1 2007 TL 5.77
Part #11 74872-SEP-A20 SPRING, L. TRUNK OPENER 1 2007 TL 5.77
Theoretically, these springs should allow the trunk lid to open up higher than the base TL springs (since the Type-S spoiler is bigger, heavier ). For about $12, if it works, I'm going to do it. I have a feeling I will probably need a special spring installation tool to do the swap.
There have been previous threads on the wing spoiler springs, but they're more expensive than these and I'm not sure if I can buy them separate from the spoiler. Thoughts/comments appreciated.
P.S. Kennedy, I saw your thread in the Black Market.

He said he installed "a spoiler" on this car and gave no other details, other than the fact that the trunk "doesn't open at all well."
He should get the heavy duty springs unless he installed a relatively small lip spoiler (like the one that comes on the type S).
Any type of wing mandates the heavier springs.
Either way, he has the information he needed and can choose from either choice. Looks like be bailed out of the thread right after he read my post and without bothering to say "thanks."
Oh, well...

I'm just not in the mood for your .02 cents on what I should do to my car, I really don't need performance parts for my DD.
Here's the story I installed a OEM lip spoiler and I have noticed a pretty big difference in the way the trunk pops now.
So just call my local Acura dealer (Or is there one you could recommend) tell them those parts numbers and I"m good to go? If so Thanks harddriven for your help

My
If you're going for the Type-S Trunk Lid Springs, they're cheap enough at list price (about $15 for the set), just get 'em local.
Here's the website with that parts diagram and parts list.
