Sounds like the classic 3rd gear problem. Search the 2nd gen forum. There are a few that can help you but it should be covered under warranty.

This is getting scary, more and more 3rd gens with the same problem.

thats not good!!!

Check the trans dipstick- does the fluid smell burnt?
Is there any sign of leakage of trans fluid? Is the fluid level ok when checked per the owner book method?

Does the engine rev without accellerating /shifting in 2nd to 3rd- like getting on it hard to get on the freeway at full throttle?

Or- You may have a motor mount problem - check the front and passenger sides- they are popular failures on gen2-- along with trans failure

Got to most large parts stores and ask them to check for any codes- they do a scanner in the port and if there are any codes- report back here

If still stumped- its the dealer for you, may actually be a trans problem- and there is a way to get warranty coverage after they posted time/miles limits

Exact same thing mine (and lots of others) did. Search through the posts for anything that says transmission. I'll post a link to the problem I had, but the short version is I had the same jerky hesitation at low accelleration between 3rd and 4th in my 2004 TL right at 50K miles. I had to take a technician with me to show him what it was doing. They replaced my tranny without any questions under warranty.

Get it to the shop and if you have to take them for a spin to show them what it is doing.

Read here. It may be exactly what you are dealing with.

Sorry not trying to thread jack. I just also ran into problems with my 04 acura tl transmission also, car is actually in the shop right now for oxygen sensor steering pump and transmission.

Question for you guys. I just purchased this car about 1 month ago and already running into tons of problems. Is it possible to just tell the dealer i don't want this car anymore and break the contract?

you'll right. wouldn't that be cover by the acura anyway since it was a recall? mine come with it.

acura covers the recall at any mileage or age
The replacement warranty trans and the newer car ones have the kit built INSIDE the trans-

I have never heard of a dealer taking a car back- you are not covered by Lemon Law
Used Cars are always Buyer Beware
If you got it at acura it should have extra CPO certified pre ownerd warranty that came with it
You have to figure someone beat a TL if they sold it- otherwise you treat it with care and keep it forever

Huh? Did you buy this car new or used? I have never heard of a dealer taking back a new car because the customer was not "satisfied" with it. Once you title a car, it immediately loses approximately $5,000 in value. I can't see a dealer eating that cost for customer satisfaction on a regular basis.

If used, I would agree this is a legit "satisfaction" warranty.
