Transmission Mount Question

I know that my engine mounts are shot on my 2008 TL with 167000 miles. I've ordered parts but the lower transmission mount is backordered from the factory and I can't find one. Soonest I can get it is mid November. I can't wait that long to have others changed because drivability is getting pretty bad. I've got a bad vibration that I thought was a warped rim but I think it is because the engine is out of position and is putting stress on CV joints.

Does anybody know how critical the lower transmission mount is and does it normally fail like the motor mounts? I noticed that the upper transmission mount had a tear in it but otherwise it was intact.

I'm going to schedule to have the mounts changed but probably won't have the lower transmission mount in time. Just wondering if anyone knows how critical that mount is in stabilizing the motor and if it typically goes out like the others?

Thanks

Jim

the lower transmission mount on the 07-08 TL's is actually very sturdy and durable. I have 169k miles on my TL and its still in a decent condition. The mounts that are most likely to fail is the front and side motor mounts, followed by the upper transmission mount and rear engine mount. Motor vibration is most likely your motor mounts, not transmission mounts

Thanks for the reply Paperboy. I have all of the other mounts on hand so I think I'll just get them changed as soon as I can and have them inspect the lower t-mount. My vibration is like an oscillating vibration and noise, like a whimper whimper whimper that increases with speed. Also has sort of a grinding noise at low speeds, mainly on braking. Axles have been changed 30k miles ago and wheel bearings 3months ago. I just hope this corrects everything. I'm worried that engine being out of position may have damaged cv joints.

I wouldnt be worried about the axles being damaged if I were you. The axles are designed to work from a variety of angles, people who lower their cars causes the axle to constantly work at an angle, and they've still held up fine
