Transmission issue?

so i've been on this forum long enough to know the importance of changing the atf and pressure switches. when i bought my car it had NO issues with the transmission whatsoever. the prev owner did routine honda z1 atf changes.

so i wanted to treat my car right and i have done the redline type F racing fluid flush, it made it shift faster but overall still not much difference.
then i did the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches 2 weeks ago. ever since then i have noticed my transmission slipping between gears occasionally and occasionally shakes hard during downshift when braking to a stop(i think this is the shuddering gears i read about) in Drive. havent noticed the shuddering when shifting manually yet.
i noticed NO improvement in shifting with the pressure switches, but it does respond faster to shifting in manual mode.

/end rant

When I changed mine they somehow got loose, and dripped ATF slowly. Eventually my tranny slipped for a day. I took it to the dealer and they fixed the crush washers and now everything is great. I guess if you have checked all this, maybe try taking it to the dealer.

Is your car throwing a code?

im not leaking any atf, its all dry around the area and atf fluid level is full on the dipstick. and no codes at all. i've noticed the slip is only 2-3 shift, whether its in manual mode or drive. happens everytime.

What would you do if...?

What would you do if your transmission was slipping on the 2-3 shift? and you have 82k miles so warranty is out of the question. its the same slip as shown in this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrGINBbb3Fc&feature=channel_video_title

whats annoying is that if i gas it more before the slipping is done, it will cause the car to jerk a bit. doesnt slip when its past 5k rpm though.

keep driving until something more serious happens?
swap out the transmission asap?

already done redline type F fluid flush and 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches.

if it doesnt get any worse im fine with leaving it like that. no one notices it except me since im the driver. but would this be a sign my tranny might be on its way out someday?

I have an 05 tl that started slipping around the same mileage. First i asked around if someone can help me do the 3x3 transmission drain and fill, Scott on the forum helped me out but that didnt work. So i did a rebuild with 24k warrenty/2 years which ever comes first, no more slipping and so far im happy.

Car was purchased on march 2009 with 79k miles. slipping started slowly within 4 to 5 months, from my personal experience it got worst (not trying to scare you) beginning of 2010. I ignored it thought maybe I'm tripping then one rainy day on April 2010 going 30MPH or 40MPH my rpm shoots up to 5 or 6, my guess is something must have screwed up bad in the tranny because that day it didn't drive the same. There was time it would slip around 20MPH then 15MPH 10MPH then the bam i cant drive it, stepped on the gas and nothing. Had it towed to my parents house since they have a drive way and i drove my Nissan sentra til i did the rebuild in June. So as far as does it get worst? For me personally, yes and this may happen if you ignore it. save money just in case....

put your old pressure switches back in and see if it fixes the problem. The TL-S uses a different transmission so it is very possible that you ordered the wrong parts...

I was aware of the possibility that i get the wrong parts or putthem in the wrong place. I triple checked the part numbers on my receipt and the packaging on the switches and they all matched correctly. However i will try puttig the swithes back next weekend when im done with finals in school. Im not trying to blame the problem on the switches though, perhaps my transmission was already on its way out and it just coincidentally happened soon after i did the switches.

This is the picture the parts i bought. paperboy42190 did you get same parts for your Acura TL-S? Where your sensors were made? I heard there are some made in USA and others in Japan. I am debating right now should i change mine, since you had no problems before you did your swithes.

anyone have an explanation as to why the slip only happens in midrange rpms? under full throttle the shift from 2-3 is solid.

Like I said before, try putting in your old switches. If that doesn't help you might want to try adding some Redline D4 fluid to the mix and see if it helps. It may just be that without the Friction Modifiers and some of the other components the transmission isn't functioning properly.

EDIT: when you replaced the switches some fluid was supposed to leak out. Did you refill the fluid to the right level? Check the fluid level and make sure you didn't over fill it or underfill it!

yes a bit of fluid leaked out but it was probably only like a tenth of a quart and the fluid level on the dipstick was unchanged so i didnt bother adding more fluid.

i will trying putting the switches back this week. i had a lot of work for school recently so i havent had time to do it.

Honda will charge around 5k for the tranny. If you get it fixed I don't think I'd put in the Type F fluid, stick with something tamer like the D4.

Paperboy, you mentioned it was working fine when you have the Type F. With the old switches, I would just get another switches and put them on and observe.

You sure you didn't install them incorrectly?

Also, I'd recommend just re-buying them from AckTL05 and doing it once more, but change out the filter this time.

I seriously doubt that the fluid and/or sensors are causing this slippage, maybe installation.

Honestly, I think it's the fluid more than anything. I did my switches first and there was no noticable improvement. After the fluid my car shifter a tad harder which I think in my own theory is that it puts more shock to the moving parts and may cause a bit of damage whereas smooth shifting limits the feel and shock. Like chayos, his thread said he started experiencing problems after his fluid change resulting a new tranny.

even though there is a shock on the components, the type F fluid allows for a quicker and firmer shift. Those smoother shifts are actually worse because the parts grind against each other to create that smooth shift. The quicker firmer shifts are caused by the parts meshing into each other very quickly.

The problem with most fluid changes is that the old fluid wore the transmission down to the point where the particles and pieces in the fluid are the only thing keeping the transmission running. Once you put new fluid in, the worn pieces inside the transmission can't mesh together anymore and work.

That is precisely why I suggest not to do a 3x3 in one day and to do it over a period of time and save the old fluid. If the car starts acting rough, drain out the current fluid and put back in the old fluid.

however the chance is having a bad switch is low but not impossible, but the chance of having a bad tranny is probably greater than the chance of having a bad switch. maybe i'll get new switches one day...

i think i notice the 3-4 shift slipping a little too now. only in midrange rpms too, just like the 2-3 slip. for now, the 3-4 slip is only like maybe 150 rpm, so hardly noticeable.
seems like my tranny is getting worse, if i gas it during the slip(which is about 1.5 seconds) it will jerk the car as it attempts to switch back to 2nd gear.
