Transmission Hang 07 TL-S

Hey all, I was on the highway yesterday on my way home from work and my transmission seemed as if it got stuck in gear. I was doing about 60 and downshifted 1 gear (auto) to overtake. At about 65 it would not upshift in to the next gear. My RPMs staying around 4-5k rpms. It stayed this way for a good 2+ minutes until I could slowly find an exit. Once I exited, i turned off the car and the problem went away. It has happened once before about 2 months ago, but at that time it finally shifted. To make things worse it just happened to me again today a few minutes ago. The car has 62,000 miles on it. It is also extremely well maintained, as I baby it. Any ideas?

No No sorry, let me clarify. This was just in regular mode, not using the paddle shifters or the sport shift. I myself have not used the paddle shifters or the sports shift.

This is a known but rare and unexplained issue if its the one I'm. Thinking of. Trans will get stuck in second gear until you shut it off. The only thing is that it usually requires wheel spin to happen. You can try a search for stuck in gear and see if it sounds like your problem.

Not exactly. We know the cause and the cheap cures for the 5at problems. Search for the racing fluid threads and switch threads.

It says downshifted 1 gear. Not downshifted to 1st gear.

Did you have any wheel spin when you went for the pass? Like I said, getting hung up in second gear happens from time to time for apparently no reason and the usual way around it is to turn the car off and back on as you did. The only difference here is it's usually after someone has had some pretty major wheel spin.

FWIW, I believe second gear is the default gear if the electronics fail or get confused. It will mechanically go to second gear with no electronics so you can still drive it at a decent speed.

IHC after reading all that was posted it seems if wheel spin was the culprit. I do recall spinning some, and it was a little wet outside. Thanks for the clarification. Atleast I can rest easier now.

The cause of the failures are now known and the cure is very simple and cheap. These transmissions are very reliable now as long as you take two basic steps.

I know the first step is to change out the ATF fluid to Redline, but what's the second step?
