Transmission fluid leak

So I was getting some work done at the dealer a few weeks ago. They said there is some fluid residue on the bottom of the transmission bell housing. They put a dye in it and I just had my follow up. They need to pull the transmission and replace the main seal from the engine block to the transmission. It will cost $1400. I asked him if it was a significant leak and he said not really. He also said there is a risk of the whole seal blowing. This seems a little far fetched...what do you guys think? I have my 105k service due also and can't afford both. Which one is more important?

If the leak isn't putting fluid on the ground, I wouldn't worry about it. Sometime these leaks go away on their own or never become worse. One thing is to make sure your motor mounts are all good. A bad mount could be causing the leak or make it worse.

FYI, the seal is $8. The rest of the price is pretty much all labor.

Thanks nfn, I was thinking the same thing. I might try to find some kind of stuff I can put in the transmission to stop the leak. Anybody recommend a certain kind?
