Transmission Done For?

I was reversing down about 1/8 of a mile to turn around. I started to turn then put the brakes on for a second to check the way was clear and when I continued to reverse there was a loud bang and I put my brake on. When I released the brake the car drifted forward and would not reverse or go into a gear up past neutral. While holding the brake, it was making a loud, inconsistent knocking noise under the car. We turned the car off and we're able to move the gear shifter into park but it still drifts forward if the E brake isn't on.

I am pretty sure my transmission is toast, what do you guys think? Could it be something electrical?

I could be completely wrong but it sounds like the axle broke. It happens. I'm guessing you don't have the ability to change it yourself, so you'll have to likely tow it somewhere and get it fixed. Not the end of the world but it is an inconvenience forsure.

I'm just speculating though. It's something that can likely be diagnosed in a minute, in person, but reading is a bit more difficult lol

That, or yes, your transmission bit the dust but it doesn't sound like a typical transmission failure. I still think it's an axle.

Thanks forthereply. I definitely hope it's the axle and not the transmission! But why would the car not be shifting into Park or any gear really? The sounds the car is making sound like something clicking in the transmission trying to get it to shift.

I think I understand now, maybe it is the axle. The car won't go into Park if the car Is running, only if It's shut off. With the car on, the gear shifter can be moved down, but once It's on Neutral or below, it won't go up past neutral unless the car shut off. But yes, in Park, with the car shut off, it drifts forward.

If it is the axle, what's a good site to get high quality Acura parts?

Just FYI, I recently had to replace passenger side axle and when I went to price it out for OEM parts it was over $700!! I went with Raxles instead.

Go with raxles, lifetime warranty and they make a great product! I would highly suggest replacing both axles as the other side may fail soon.

You have to drain the trans fluid to change the axle so also a good time to buy new trans fluid and do the 3x3 drain and refill.
