Transmission

I just brought a 2004 tl and was told it needed a transmission I got in and noticed that the D5 light was not blinking and the car will move forward and reverse after a couple seconds in gear , the owner told she had ran over something . I would like to know if it might need a new tranny or could it be the axle, I only paid 2000 and would wanna know if its worth fixing the cars very clean just wanna know if I should let it go.. Thanks for any help

Moving forward and backwards is usually not a problem, does it shift properly or stuck in a gear? If you can't drive out on the road, jack up the front and give it a try. If it were the half shaft broken, car wouldn't move at all, but I would think the broken shaft would be visible with an inspection.

sounds like a transmission rebuild is in order, blinking light for D means theres a transmission error stored. Get that read and you'll get a lot more info. You can pull it up at home by shorting out 2 pins to get to SCS mode on the OBDII connector and figure out the blinks of the light that correspond to the code.
