Tranny Gone!
DRiving down interstate 78 on cruise control about 70mph. All a sudden i get a oil smell, then i look at my RPM/ and is at 4k. so i hit the gas and nothing happens. y the way near the trany dipstick there this little tube, all the oil came out that tube.
how much am i looking at in repairs.
by the way 04 TL 66k miles.

time for a trip to the dealer
there are a few possibilities- the fil ltube came out somehow- or the trans failed
If its the tube- I dont know- never seen that happen buit seems like a good cause for warranty repair on defective part-failure
How far did you drive it like that- or did it stop dead on you?
If it is actual internal trans failure- even though over 50k miles,
the gen2 TL/CL got a court ordered extended warranty to 7years+9 months or 109k miles
Acura knows the clutch disc problem was not/is not fixed and usually goodwills a replacement to those who ask on Gen3 cars. Same trans, same problem
Dont ask, Dont get! the rule of Life
Speak in person and direct with the SERVICE MANAGER ---NOT the service advisor-writer who is only allowed to read from the official warranty limits
Managers call the regional warranty rep who gives the ok for full or partial pay replacement.
Being nice is the key- you love your acura - you belong to Acurazine.com- you have other family members with acuras....you get the idea

so here is an update, i called Acura and spoke with a manager by the name of Damon, who told me that he needed to do some investigation, i guess is run the VIN to see if proper service was done on the car.
So the other day i get in the car and put it on D i step on the gas and it doesn't move, as i move it to sport shift and change it to gear 2 and i step on the gas the car moves lol funny right well. i switch it back to L and the car again moves. I have no clue what is going on here. any idea any one?

Have you taken the car in yet ? If not, take it in and let them diagnose it. After the diag and they give you the fix solution ask the service manager what he can do to help with the costs (if the costs are high).
My tranny went out at 105,000 miles. My warranty ended at 50K miles. Acura covered 95% of my cost ($3180) and I paid 5% ($171.00), and they gave me a loner car (08 TL) for the 5 days it took them to replace the tranny.
My car is serviced at the same dealership I purchased it from so they knew me as a good customer.

Reading this makes me happy that I got rid of my TL. I knew that tranny was a POS just like the 2nd gens. If I had bought the 6 speed I would still have my TL though because I did like it.
So if they are cover 90% of the cost how much are you going to have to outta pocket for the repairs/replacement? Also, why are they not just good willing it and paying for it completely.

Just because I don't have a TL anymore doesn't mean that I can't help out others on the forum. I have a lot of knowledge about cars and I still frequent a lot of boards. I also haven't really posted a lot since I sold my TL. A couple of threads get bumped here and there that I replied to eons ago (when I did have the TL) and I get an email and find myself browsing over the forum. I have also met a lot of people on Acurazine and helped a lot of them out with general info that I have provided and I programmed a lot of keys for the locals when they were buying the switchblade keys from FLBUSA.
So because I don't have a TL I shouldn't be here? Because I can't help anyone out or add any constructive critisim because I don't own a TL?
Well i'm not sure why they not paying 100 % but my car is an 04 with 66k mile. i'm pass warranty / am happy enought they paying 90%, which is goinig to be about $200 -$250 out of pocket!

That's not that bad I guess. I've been lucky to get some things goodwill warrantied and that's mainly because the dealerships appreciate your business and want you to come back.
Thats a great deal!!!

Since they are replacing it under 'warranty' your new tranny will have a warranty.

Its one thing to have specific helpful input on a forum---and another to come back and say how the cars are a POS, and why wont acura give 100% coverage on trans out of warranty, and how they got some freebies- but dont specify if they were $4000 worth of stuff like a trans is, and yadayada
Some state they are sharing their wisdom- but offered no actual help!
Helpful is different than what ~some~ bring to the pages IMO
Anyone who failed to research the TL thru the internet before purchase is on their own, the 100k mile extended warranty you can buy for the newer cars is an investment against known weak points on the car.
I searched TL+ problems and found azine and the trans failure thread before buying mine!!!

I didn't necessarily say the car is a POS but the tranny has huge issues in the auto. When I bought my '05 TL at the end of '04 the only reported problem was the oil jet kit that had to be retrofitted on the '04's. Supposedly all of the tranny problems were fixed in the '05 models which turned out to be not so true. I also did purchase the extended 100k mile warranty for more than the tranny (navi and electronics). Honda/Acura really dropped the ball on the TL when it comes to quality control as far as I'm concerned and I could bitch on and on about it yet at the end of the day I still liked my TL and if it were 6 speed I would still have it.
As for asking why they didn't pay 100%. Is it wrong to ask that? I have seen complete motors goodwill warrantied that were 5k miles outta warrenty to bent valves from a misshift that were covered by dealers. It's not abnormal for some dealers to go above and beyond and if they are willing to pay for 90% why not all. Also, sometimes when dealers say they will pay for 90% they still try to stick you with a $1k bill. However, with this situation I probably wouldn't complain about paying $250.
As for helpful posts think what you like. However, feel free to search through my posts and see if you think I have brought nothing to the table. I still recieve PM's even though I am not on here regularly asking me for help/info.
Glad to hear that they are covering most of it, but just remember that you are NOT out of the dark with the new transmission.
The quality of the remanufactured units has been spotty, very spotty according to my local Acura service dept. I hold the same view after seeing the various failures of the remanufactured units in 2G TL.
