tranny again on the 3rd gen

Yes, there was a TSB issued on the early 04 TLs - mfgd thru April/May 04 - that required the installation of an oil jet kit. My 04 experienced signs of premature tranny failure (high pitched whine, roughness shifting, burnt lube, etc.). My 05 seems fine and I have not seen any posts for 05 tranny probs.

oic..becuz i just had the 2nd gen TL and the tranny was just so bad i didnt really wanna own the TL anymore becuz of that...but yeah i thought about it over and i was like maybe i should give the 3rd gen TL a try but not so sure..im deciding from 3rd gen TL or 05 TSX or the 04 Accord...im trying to stay out of the tranny failure circle again..

I think maybe one auto trans has ben replaced, so they are not failing early, how they will hold up at 100,000 miles is a question.
If I had the auto trans, I would change the ATF every 30,000 miles, drain the pan and refill, over time that will keep the fluid in good shape.

compare to my current tranny, current one shift much smoother....
mine was the early built canadian AT TL...which done the oil return line thingy...
i tracked my car twice last year....not 100% pushing...mostly 3gear pull instead of 2nd.....
before winter i did a ATF change and found out there's ATF leak around the seal (didn't c any of the oil on the ground becuase the underbody panel covered it) so i have no idea when did that happened....turned out i was the second TL with same poblem @ my dealer....

I have just over 45k on my tranny right now, and have no issues. The 3G trannies after the first 14k or so of 2004 are generally safe. What we see reported here is nothing at all like the frequent reports I read on the 2G board when I was a 2G owner and more active over there.
You can pretty much buy without worry at this point.

Yeah, I agree with the above post. I have the oil jet installed and haven't had any issues since it's been installed and I drive my car pretty hard (engine braking, etc) since I first purchased it.
