I have a mystery that i have been trying to solve. My TLS 07 upshifts by itself in manual mode in 3rd gear to 4th. This happens around the same time VTec kicks in, dont know if their is any correlation. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that the car will automatically upshift or downshift when it hits a certain rpm?

 

I was under the impression i should be able to red line before it up shifts automatically. Can anyone confirm that in manual mode transmission up shifts without hitting red line, like shown in the video??

 

Sounds like it may be a problem with the 3-4 gear pressure switch.


That is correct only for the 1-2 shift on the '04-06 TL.

I don't recall if that is the case for the '07-'08 or if Sport-shift mode permitted redlining on 1st for them.

The 5AT will hold at redline, but not shift automatically, in Sport-shift mode.

 

I have this exact same issue. It started happening just this last year.

The 07-08 can be redlined, it will only shift from driver input on SS

 

Already changed my 3rd and 4th gear switches thinking that was solve my issue but no luck. It doesnt shift for 1st to 2nd like my cls did, it holds first until i input shift, hmmm guess imma have to take a trip to the stealership and see if they have any clue on whats going on. Seems like this is a rare problem that has not been solved.

 

Just to elaborate. The gear indicator will blink once or twice while under wot. Sometimes not respond to input. I think the automatic up shift is from you or me anxiously mashing the + paddle when it doesn't shift

 

With me I dont manually upshift at all, the car just shifts from 3rd to 4th by itself. Pretty weird.

 

Hey All, I solved my problem. I ended up changing my transmission range sensor and that seemed to do the trick. I've had no issues since, no more blinking gear indicator and it redlines in all gears well i haven't tried 4th and 5th but 1st 2nd and 3rd are fine. Funny thing is it didn't give a code so the dealer was stumped.

I also recently changed out my gear position sensor, but for other reasons.

 

U didn't need to change it
If u just unplug the sensor and drive it for a few block then plug it back in and it will work normal
( if that is the on the driver side on top of the tranny
