Crap! P0420 & P0430 codes

I just bought the car (07' Type S) last week. I put regular gas in it not knowing better (one tank). Think that caused it? I have read all the threads on here about these codes. I going to call the dealer to see if the convertors have been replaced. I think the dealer may have cleared codes just to sell the car...I live in central Florida. Just in case. Where can I o for a good deal to have the convertors replaced if I have to?

If you are receiving both codes I would look somewhere else. I doubt both of your 2 Cats went bad at the same time. Look at something upstream like O2's or MAP.

Edit: You may be able to find some used cats here when users replace for PCDs or HFPCs.

codes

I would agree. I find it hard to believe both go bad at the same time...

Meh, I'd put some octane booster in your tank (if the normal gas is still in there) and then fill with premium when it runs low, clear the codes and see if they come back.

I certainly don't think its time to worry yet.

Were the codes present when you bought the car?

reset the CEL and see if it comes back. sometimes the CEL will trip for this if you get a bad batch of fuel or if the sensors are reading off.

Car dealers resetting long term drive cycle induced DTCs is nothing new, especially the smaller used car dealers. I doubt the regular fuel is related to it. Both of my MDXs required new cats due to faulty programming that was covered by the dealer up to 60k miles if I remember correctly. I'd at least call them and see if there's a TSB or recall for any catalytic converter related issues. If not, sometimes simply running a SeaFoam treatment using a drip can apparatus can clean them enough and restore efficiency. This is because the ceramic monolith inside the converter can become coated heavily with deposits thereby lowering their efficiency level. Try it, wouldn't hurt. Most small lube centers carry the drip can apparatus's that allow you to run the chemical through an intake vacuum line which IMO is much more effective at cleaning than the fuel tank method.
