TL won't MAX RPM upon FLOORING gas pedal!

Hello everyone. I hope someone can help me on this as it is very annoying. I am a previous owner of a 98 Accord V6 and as far as I am concerned, the TL is quite bad in response compared to my accord. When I gas my Accord, it flies no matter what speed I am in. On my TL which I've owned for about a month now, is sluggish in response to the gas pedal. I know it uses a drive by wire system but...shouldn't it know when I want to speed up quickly for example when I want to pass someone on the freeway?

For example, just today I tried to pass some people and they were speeding up to piss me off and I wanted to go fast but at 70mph, I floored the gas pedal and the RPM jumps to like 3k and takes at least 5 seconds to get to 80mph. Beyond 80mph, it takes at least 10 seconds to get to 90 and then I don't even want to talk about what happens afterwards.

Any ideas?

How hot was it out? How long were you driving?

I've noticed that the TL is very sluggish when over-heated.

Is this a 5at or 6mt? Anyways it sort of sounds like something in the transmission is slipping if your rpms jump but your car doesn't really move. Check the fluid levels and fluid conditions. Also what year is your car? The more background info you can provide the better help people can be.

thanks everyone for the reply. temperature was around 90F. Weird, today it seems to function fine, temperature around 80F. My Car is 5AT transmission and I was flooring the gas pedal and RPM only got up to like 3000 and I do know vtec usually kicks in at 3500RPM on my accord, should be same with TL right?

Ambient temperatures is not exactly what they are talking about, they are talking about your engine bay being heat soaked. When the engine bay is heat soaked it can cause the engine's temperature sensor (IAT) to read higher than ambient and you lose some performance.

vtec on the TL is controlled by oil pressure change associated with rpm increase
Vtec comes on at ~4700, may vary slighty between years/gens
this is not your accord!! well parts of it are...

If the engine oil were very dirty or the oil passages plugged with crud- that could cause problems- is the dipstick looking really bad when you check it-
that would be a time to install a new oil flter and run seafoam in the oil for a few days of driving- then change oil and filter-
thats just MY opinion and is not a reflection of acurazine or their viewers~

here is the owner book for free- have a read in there to learn the systems of the TL- has some good general and specific info in there
https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...01_OMANUAL.asp
click your year then model-
