TL Whiny????

Recently, as i press the gas, my car gives off sort of a whineing noise (1200 RPM to about 3500 RPM). Also, my knocking issuse from the engine has become more pronounced(idle until 3000 RPM), i noticed that my serptine belt was moving a bit on the pullies (sideways about 2mm each way). Also when my car is parked, my engine when running sound like there are crickets inside?? (no i do not have the supercharger or air intake. The motor is totally stock and has no mods done to it, the exaust is also stock. No changes have been recently made execpt for the wipers)

I just noticed the same thing on my 04, but I don't hear it when the radio is on, so I guess I'll get it checked next time I have to go to the dealer.

Hope someone can shed some light on this so we will both know what's causing it.

Transmission problem

I am also having the same problem with my 05 TL. The transmission is Whiny through the first few gears. I'm at 60,000 miles. Is that a sign that the current TL transmissions are problems also? Thanks.

i only have 25500 miles on it and it occurs when the radio is off and on. My oil life is at 60% and i have had it maintained as it should. Any ideas on the pully travel and the crickets? This noise is most pronounced during first and second, but less during third as the wind noise muffles it alot.

I have a whine between 1800-3000 rpm as well. I thought it used to just be 1st to 3rd gear, but then I realized that it was happening in 4th and 5th too - you just have to be on a very quiet freeway to hear it in the road noise.

Two different dealerships have confirmed that it is a transmission issue, but the scary thing is they both tested other cars in the lot and said that it isn't a problem. However, I've developed some rough gear shifting (from P to R, for example) and delays in gear engagement, so I'm taking it back in to get it replaced. Let's see if they actually do it!

I'm at about 37800 miles.

I too also have gear switching delayments sometimes, but for the knocking issue, the car does it when in park, netural, drive, low and reverse. The pulley belt still travels and my engine still sounds like crickets. Any other ideas. BTW, my oil life is now 50% so i will being going to the acura dealer within a month or 2

50% oil life or not, I would set up an appointment with your dealer right away and take the tech out for a test drive. If it's your transmission, get it replaced sooner rather than later!

You'd be surprised, but most of the techs I've worked with are a lot nicer and are willing to work with you to find the problem. If you take them on a ride and they can confirm a problem they're generally happy to fix any problems for you.

To bad the dranny delays shifting when it wants to, even if i drive in SS, it'll shift when it want to (delay), sometimes seamlessly, other times when there is a 2 second delay.

Most of my experience with the Sports Shift has involved a minor delay. I think that's just the way the transmission is built. I've never seen a TL with a fast, non-delayed Sports Shift. Have you taken you car into the dealer yet?
