TL-S coolant temperature doesn't go beyond 25%

Could it be my temperature sensor gone bad? On a cold start, the needle hangs below the C and I noticed that it never goes beyond 25% from the C. It stays perfectly horizontal and parallel to the dash. I snapped a pic but not sure if you can see it(on my iPhone).

That is normal, you also have to remember that temp gauges dont always read excatly the same. As long as it doesn't go all the way up or dont move at all, i think you will be alright.

Your thermostat might be stuck open so your engine is not getting proper temperature equals more gas wasting. another possible is that your fan is staying on too long

There's a possibility, OP, grasp your upper and lower radiator hoses and see if they are both scorching hot...obviously if they're hot don't hang on to them. lol

If one is hot and one is warm/cool then your thermostat may be creating some blockage/stuck partially open.

Your warm temps don't look that accurate. I'll have to double check but I'm sure mine is somewhere close to the mid point (I'll take a snap at lunch time). This is after 5-7minutes of run time with the temps we've been having here in Toronto.

even though i have the 3.2 and not the 3.5, my gauge always stays around the same point as yours. Thats why i dont believe there is a problem.

I guess my car may be messed up as well. I dont know, it has always been that way, stopping somewhere around 1/3 the way up. I dont know, i always figured as long at it doesnt stay at the bottom, my gauge is working, and as long as it doesnt go all the way up, the cooling system is working.

There doesn't seem to be too much difference between the two posted pix (engine warm). My gauge seems more like jeeva86 and I have an 08 TLS.

Mau108 - you don't mention your driving conditions or ambient outside temperature.

i have a 08 TL-S and mine is also like jeeva's.. on my old 94 honda accord it would also hang around right below the middle line.. when it reached the middle something was wrong, for that car..

but i am curious to see everyone else's response because i always thought below mid was normal for hondas/acuras

EDIT:

I found a pic i took few days ago.. this was after 30+ minutes of driving, so it was fully warm

mine was after 30 minutes of driving and ambient temps were 5-6 degrees Celsius about 41 Fahrenheit.

Car was not moving when I took the photo (was waiting to turn left). I have a bluetooth obd2 dongle I'll get an accurate reading of my coolant temps today.

I noticed my needle was at the position I had original posted 10 minutes after starting up the car and driving.

My engine temp at idle after a 15 minute run on the freeway at above 100km/h (seems quite low)

While driving:

I could of sworn my Prelude's temps were always around 96-99 degrees celcius and it would kick in the fan at 100 (had a Scangauge hooked up to that car)

i talked to my mechanic about this issue today, he told me the thermostat was probably stuck open on my car. and this also causes the heat to take longer to get really hot when you turn on your car.

and i did notice this was a problem on my car recently.
i was wondering if anyone else had this problem with their heat.

So I checked mine today both to and from work (actually Jury Duty this week ) which is 32 miles each direction and the temp gauge needle moves up to the 5th graduation just like jeeva86 and Will1688. It was 54F on the way in this AM and about 43F on the way home and yes it was colder on the way home than on the way in. Cold front moving in with rain, etc.....

So it seems like something could be stuck with mine since it never has gone above the 5th line. I'll try to check how hot the rad hoses are too tmr. I've only put the heater on once the engine is warm(5th line) and usually I put it a low fan speed so I can't comment on if it's as effective or not.

Not me - there's nothing to get checked out as I believe mine is working as designed.

I have an 08 TL-S and mine always stays (after driven for a bit obviously) at about the 1/4-1/3 area of the temp gauge. I have never had any issues.

I haven't done anything as well. It's pretty cold outside but I tried to touch the radiator pipes but it wasn't burning my hands :S. Not sure if I was touching the right pipes and it was freezing outside.

It seems like there's 2 marks. The area where mine and Will168 sits at and the one where Mau's at. I suspect you guys are fine since I'm not able to reach that point.

I think my fuel efficiency sucks because of this. According to the MID, I'm getting 10, assume this is 10.99, so make it 11. I pump for 50L usually but I've only driven < 450km :S.

I drive my TL-S all around Southern Ontario for work. On average I get 500-520km's on a 50L tank (remember the TL keeps a 10L reserve). If I drive in the city and some highway (I live north of Woodbridge) then I get about 450km. All highway driving I get 700-800km's. My MID says I average 9-10L/100KM.

Anyone fix this concern?

Has anyone that has the low temp reading repaired it by replacing the t-stat or what?
Thanks

^I would be more concerned if it was reading on the hot side. I have seen vehicles run without a thermostats before (only temperary though).
