Tint scratching....what can I do?

As the title says my damn window tint is scratching. What makes it worse is that it's happening to all 4 doors. There is obviously something on the felt strip. I've had 5 cars tinted by the same person and I've never had this happen before. I went and showed the guy this morning. He said that eventually the glass itself will get scratched if something isn't done. I asked him if there is anything to put on the felt strip to stop scratches and he said not really. I could swear I've seen talk about something for just this purpose on Azine before. He also said that even if he re-tints for me the same thing will happen again. What can i do?

Anyone know tint shops that can help me in or around Orlando, FL?

Yes, you need to put moleskin (a felt strip) along the inside of each door and that will stop the scratching

You can buy it from one of our vendors... tintprotector.com I think.

It ends up being ~$30 shipped and you can apply it yourself.

thanks for the website. would it be a good idea for me to have all four windows stripped. Then apply the moleskin and take it back to have it re-tinted.

Have it stripped and retinted before you install the moleskin. The tinting process can sometimes mess with the strips. I did mine before tint and had a few problems with glue streaking (search and you'll find a lot of people have had this problem for various reasons). I reinstalled the moleskin on my driver's side window (worst glue problem) and haven't had a problem since. You can't put the windows down after tinting anyway so it's no big deal.

I installed the moleskin myself. Bought it from tintprotector.com. Came with great instructions. Install was easy. I do have a bit of a glue problem, but it comes right off with Goo Gone. I can put up with the glue a lot better than scratches. Good luck.

Not sure what you guys are talking about since

MOLESKIN = FELT

I would remove the felt that is on there now and then apply new, clean felt. This will solve your problem for a little. You need to keep your windows up as much as possible to avoid getting dirt down inside the door skin. Also clean your windows as much as possible with a tint-friendly cleaner.

it helps out quite a bit, but its not scratch proof. If you dump sand in your window, it will scratch. The tint protects greatly decreases the chances of scratched tint.

i think is what he meant.

i'm also going to tint my windows (finally eh? rofl) - so get tint done, don't open windows and have the shop add the moleskin or is this really so easy that i should do it myself? (assume that i do not have any proper tools, and that i'd have to go out and buy them and that i do not have a garage to work out of

You only need is a screw driver some small pliers and alcohol to install our Tint Protector Kit. It is easy to install as others on the boards will tell you.

You won't have a problem installing it yourself.
