Timing belt experts! CKP? please help

We are doing the 105k service on my 5at 04 tl. According to the ALLDATA, the last step is to "perform crankshaft position pattern (CKP) clear/ CKP pattern learn procedure."

I have searched and cant find anything about anyone doing this in the 3g garage timing belt thread, or any other thread for that matter. We are doing this at my parents INDY shop, and dont have the honda scanner, they have a genisys(not sure if that scanner is even capable). Is this step even necessary? If so, what do I have to do? IS it the same as just disconnecting the battery, or is there more to it? Any help or input would be apprecieted.

I'd call a dealership and speak to one of the techs.

I looked at that, and I didnt see anything about "perform crankshaft position pattern (CKP) clear/ CKP pattern learn procedure." which was the entire point of this thread.

Anyways, i got it done, and everything is perfect. valve adjustment too. This "perform crankshaft position pattern (CKP) clear/ CKP pattern learn procedure." was the very last step in the ALLDATA, and I was hoping it wouldnt require a trip to the dealer, for their scan tool. Thankfully, it did not. maybe with the batt being disconnected, I averted this step.

AllData is wrong.

It's not listed in the service manual timing belt procedures, I can tell you that much. Several of us have DIY'd the TB change and I'm pretty sure none of us has done this procedure.

Although it seems as nobody ever seems to do the final step, but the last step in the FSM pertaining to Timing Belt Replacement:

Do the crankshaft position (CKP) pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure (see page 11-5).

Just for information:
Naturally, the Clear/Learn Procedure is listed with the use of the HDS.

Learn Procedure (without the HDS)
1. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 RPM without load (in Park or Neutral) until the radiator fan comes on.
2. Test drive the vehicle on a level road: Decelerate (with the throttle fully closed) from an engine speed of 2,500 RPM down to 1,000 rpm with the A/T in L position, M/T in 1st gear.

3. Test drive the vehicle on a level road: Decelerate (with the throttle fully closed) from an engine speed of 5,000 RPM down to 3,000 RPM with the A/T in L position, M/T in 1st gear.

4. Repeat step 2 and 3 several times.

5. Turn the ignition off.

6. Turn the ignition switch on (ll), and wait for 30 seconds. The pattern learn procedure is complete.

^^^I stand corrected. It's step 21, the last step, but requires HDS to implement. Don't remember now, but pretty sure I just blew it off because of that.

At any rate, my car suffered no ill effects from not doing the procedure. And none of the DIYers on this forum have reported any issues from skipping this step.

Perhaps endless could weigh in on if that step really accomplishes anything?

Thank you VERY much! I didnt do this step either and everything is fine. Maybe this thread will at least help someone in the future.

Dino81-
I just finished the same job on my 05 including valve adjustment, thermostat, intake cleaning, etc.
While my engine does run smoother and quieter...the shift points are different and it does not have as much torque (2nd gear acceleration 1500-3000rpm). Do you notice any of these things?

I came upon this hds CKP learn procedure thinking it may be the culprit.
