Timing Belt on 2006 TL

My 2006 TL only has 29,000 miles but Acura says the timing belt should be changed because of age (7 years). Anyone here have experience with this?

Over time, that rubber will start to break down naturally. The only thing that sucks is if your original timing belt was to snap, Acura is now not liable for it (assuming it's been over 7 years).

oh boy...here we go...

there is nothing the the 3G owner's manual about the 7 yr replacement. and we all know that rubber breaksdown over time. how much time is tough to say.

there have been members that have replaced at 8 yrs and low miles, even as long as 10 yrs and low miles (yes, i know the 3G is not that old yet). there are other members that will be close to the MID/105k and around the 7 yr mark and they replace before the MID cues them.

of the members that have waited to replace on a low mileage TL (04-05 owners), have found that their existing TB looked pretty good, almost brand new as they said.

outside of the forums i have read of owners of cars with low mileage, change their TB at 9 or 10 yrs without any issues (these appear to be the avg type car owners out there that rarely read their manual or pay much attention to their maintenance schedule until they are prompted by a mechanic.

certainly there is risk of the TB fraying or snapping and then your engine goes boom. so ultimately it is up to you. i'm sure you could get away with waiting to the 8th or 9th yr since your car seen little service at 29k miles (which is stupid low for a 7 yr old car).

i'm at 8 yrs and 57k miles on my TL...i will probably look into getting the TB done next year. i feel your dilemma.

Thanks for making a long story short...I just wish I had the luxury of that dilemma.

Welcome to the forums.

If you want to submit a new thread, at the top left corner of the page there is a box that says "New Thread" If the box isn't there, you are probably in a forum where you are not yet allowed to submit threads, like the Black Market.

Click on that button and you get a big yellow outlined box where you can type your message and put in the thread title.

When you're done with that, go to the bottom and there are two boxes, "Submit new thread" or "Preview post". It is always good to click on the "Preview Post" button and check out what you wrote.

After you make any corrections, or if it was okay as is, click on the "Submit new thread" button and it should enter your thread.
