Ticking noise when braking

hey guys- I have an 08 S with 22K, and I have been hearing a ticking noise when coming to a stop (only when brakes are applied, and random, but more often in the past week) in the front drivers side of the car. I thought initially it would be the pads, but I have over 2mm left, and got a second opinion after taking the wheel off and inspecting again, and the pads are fine. My buddy thinks it could be a heat shield or something making the ticking noise. Just wondering if anyone knew what it might be thanks - also, if I decide to take it in for service to check it out, and they see the CAI- will in void warranty?

Did you check your dust sheild (heat shield) to see if it's rubbing? As far as CAI voiding warranty, no, it doesn't, unless, it causes a problem. Which it shouldn't.

J - agree on the CAI, should have no effect on brake, suspension, etc. warranties.

When you say "2mm" left - is that TOTAL of 2mm or 2mm OVER the service limit of 2mm (4mm total)?

Anything unusual on the surface of the rotor - grooves, nicks, etc?
