Throttle body cleaned and issues
Hello everyone, just need some help here. I cleaned my throttle body following the advice of a YouTube video and now my idle is much higher than normal...the car rpm meter is constantly jumping and it is not like before. This is what I did:
Took off the air intake hose and unplugged the top plug, then I turned the car to "on" and put a brick to open the flap...then I sprayed with a throttle body cleaner, wiped, dried and repeated a few times.
Then I put everything back together, start the car (car struggled to start, but it started nonetheless). Now the rpm is above 1 always and when I let off the gas and let the car roll the rpm go up without me pressing the accelerator...pls help!!!

Vacuum leak. Check all of your fittings and hoses.
FWIW, rule of thumb, it it ain't broke, don't mess with it. Cleaning throttle bodies, as often as not, have a bad ending. That and a cleaned throttle, rarely, if ever, provides any benefit.

horseshoez, you should probably further qualify your statements above in regards to you 'drive by wire' folks.
I cleaned my 'sticking' cable actuated TB just yesterday from my S/C'ed CL-S6 and it had accumulated a shit-ton of carbon non-sense on and around the buttery fly and its shaft. Lubed it with some 'deep creep' and it is hella smoother.
As far as the OP, post up that YouTube video so we can see the method used on how to clean a DBW TB. I for one very interested, because the strong solvents used in TB cleaner/Carb cleaner can melt plastic; ie Acetone.

OP, IIRC, according to the SM, you're never supposed to mess with the butterfly valve. And never spray carb cleaner directly on the valve. Use a rag soaked in carb cleaner to wipe it clean.
Another YouTube phail. Sorry, but LMAO....
And the SM calls for the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure after cleaning....

I'd just wait a few days and see what happens. It may be fine after it runs for a while.

Read the thread below:

Read the first item, second page on the link below:

Hopefully, that information will get your car back to normal.
If not, you may need to have it professionally diagnosed to see if you need a new throttle body.

Funny I came across this thread.
Visit the link above. See if your symptoms are the same as mine was.
Solution was to visit the dealer and have them reset the TPS.
Indy shops can do it for you if they have a HDS tool, but most don't.

Thank you Zeta and Guitarplayer...that is the exact same problem I am having. Coincidentally I took my car to the shop because of another issue (rear main seal leak and oil pump seal leak, trunk spring repair and engine mounts replacement). Once I get my car back I'll disconnect everything, and reassemble. Question....kinda dumb here but does "torquing" simply mean tightening the screws?
Thanks
Thanks

When cleaning a drive by wire throttle body NEVER spray directly into the valve. Proper cleaning technique is spray cleaner onto a clean cloth and start wiping down the throttle body.

I had the same issue when the dealership cleaned my throttle body. Rough idle and surging issues. I did an idle relearn and it's been running right ever since. Here is what I did:
Drive around until your car is fully warmed up.
Unplug the negative battery cable on your car for about 15 minutes (make sure you have nav and radio codes)
Turn off all the car accessories like a/c, radio etc
While in Park, rev car to 3000 rpm until you hear the radiator fan kick on.
Let car idle for 5 minutes with no load ( no a/c , radio on etc)
I took an additional step by having the car idle with the a/c and radio on for 5 minutes.
Hope this helps.

Probably have to take it to a shop with a good scanner and do the TP position relearn/reset, I cleaned my throttle body with a seafoam upper engine treatment and had code p2279 or vacuum leak keep coming up, since, the idle was sporadic with at times revs jumping, etc. I borrowed a scanner and reset mine yesterday, you then let it idle for 10 minutes at operating temp, it days it has to be at least 10 minutes as that's when it learns the idle air control. Now the car idles great. Can't believe the issues for these cars from a simple clean of the throttle body... Lol
