Tensioner!

I took my car to Acura bc i was having a squeaking coming from my pulleys. They said it was the tensioner, so i took it upon myself to change it bc they quoted me a ridiculous 300 bucks to do the job, I went to my local NAPA and picked one up for a good price and slapped it on. Now instead of squeaking its making the "knocking" noise, i know this bc i took the serp belt off while it was making the noise and it went away so it narrowed it down to NAPA giving me a bad part. So i took the part back and got another, slapped that one on, and bam still have the same problem. Do you thinking it could be something else or am i just buying a cheap part? How could i have two bad parts.. so lost at this point this car is a piece of sh**

its prolly not tight enough... i have the same issue getting it fixed tomorrow but having it done by honda specialist. i got the same 370 price from acura. but this honda place near me is doing it for 190. thats including the belt. i would do it myself but when it comes to stuff like that id rather pay someone to do it write.

OP, what torque spec did you tighten the large bolt to?

My guess is that you over torqued it (the large bolt). Do you have a torque wrench? The spec is only 33 ft-lbs.

Edit: Wait a minute.. What year is your car? There was a TSB for noise from the AT...

Edit: NVM, that was the timing belt idler... N/A for this.

I'm still going with my over-torqueing theory...

Just loosen it and then re-torque to spec using a torque wrench. I dunno, but the damage may already be done if it was over torqued...

On some tensioners they are different shape and rub against the timing belt cover. You have to trim on of the ribs on the cover so the tensioner has room

Damn it, that's right! That's what I was thinking about earlier. It is TSB 08-049 for 2004-2006. Sorry, I mixed that up earlier with the TB idler issue.

OP, that could be it...
