Subframe Dropping ?

Would anyone with experience or knowledge please give a break down or point me in the direction or make a video LOL, on how to drop the subframe exactly and what it means? I need to install a new Rack & Pinion and figured Might as well upgrade the FSB as well. I've done many repairs on my car before so im not a complete, idiot . Just enough not to know how to do this. If any cool guys could school me , I'd appreciate it a whole lot. Thanks a mill

Lot of work to drop the subframe. Lower control arms, motor mounts, etc.

Look under the car. Remove everything from the subframe. It's pretty self explanatory. You'll have to get an alignment afterwards. Replace your motor mounts too while it will be easy.

Ok thnks...The other part of my question was..So everything is removed from the subframe....then what...How do you initiate to where you begin DROPPING the sub frame..Does that automatically happen once everything is removed ?

after you remove the motor mounts and control arms, theres a couple big subframe bolts on the bottom you'll see on each corner. should be somewhat obvious. and definitely make sure your tools are up to the task of removing those heavily torqued bolts

im not sure how you're planning to support the subframe but its going to be heavy and i dont think a regular car jack will hold it balanced

Yeah, I would really want a lift to drop the subframe. It's not my kind of DIY project at all.

Actually, you can do it without a lift. I got two jacks and two 18”x12” furniture Dolly’s, I added some 1x4’s to the middle of the Dolly’s and balanced them on the jacks, with one on each side of the car. Raise the jack/dolly’s Up to the subframe, remove the bolts, slowly lower the subframe lowering each side a little at a time going back and forth on each side until you get it down. Make sure you mark the position of the subframe to the body and the subframe stiffeners to the subframe before you unbolt them.

Thanks for the tips guys. As I am planning to do this very thing to a 2005 MDX, it's great to know there is the possibility of doing this safely and to have our information available to all viewers ^_^

My mechanic said it takes him 4 hours start to finish.

Keep in mind this is in a dealer's shop, on a lift and with an experienced Honda tech.
