Stolen remote and key (06' TL)

To all, I need some advise as to what to do. One of my two remote and key was stolen. One opition is to have all locks (doors, ignitio, glovebox and trunk) replaced at dealer for $600 labor included. Or possibly going to a locksmith and changing the tumblers to fit a modified new key. Then get another key from the dealer and have the locksmith resurface it to fit the new config?
Thanks in advance.

First, no trunk key needed, and there's only one door lock, so you are talking about 3 locks. But if you change all the locks and get new keys, or change the tumblers, the remote would still work so you would either have to be sure you never leave anything valuable in the car, or change the remotes also.

How did the remote and key get stolen? Do you know if the thief knows what car it belongs to?

This is a real bummer and I'm sorry to hear it happened to you.

I had another vehicle broken into and remote and key were in a jacket they stole. Totally my fault. As for the locks on the car we have had it for 1600 miles and I don't drive it enough yet to know how many locks it has. The $600 and piece of mind may be the way we go but the dealer did say they could re-program the remote. Maybe door lock, reprogram and have an extra key?
Thanks for the help, love the car.

If you search, you'll find instructions on how to reprogram the remote yourself. When you do that, the car will only accept the remote(s) that you have on hand at the time. The stolen remote won't work anymore. However the stolen key will still work. I wouldn't have peace of mind until the locks were replaced.
