Stereo problems
I have a NAVI model but driving without trunk-mounted harddrive unit (@ Alpine on rebuild). All of a sudden notice radio shuts off after less than minute of listening to XM radio. When switched to regular FM, radio will stay on but there are crazy popping and static noises from subwoofer and from behind the overhead interior light panel. Had to stop on the highway because thought my car is either hit with rocks on the roof or catching on fire.
Navi harddrive was removed by Caton radio here in Baltimore, and have no idea if they have messed with wires behind the headunit.
Any idea what that may be?

Where can that be checked?
I just discovered this morning that when my stereo was off, the front center speaker started hissing and there was a brief cracking noise from behind the overhead light plastic panel. FM stereo works fine but turns off when switched to XM. I am f&*ed!
Please help!

I had a similar issue after I replaced my radio. Lots of static & popping. It turned out I hadn't fully seated one of the connectors in the back of the radio. I took everything apart again and re-seated the connection and everything was good.
Try wiggling some different parts of the wiring harness in various locations to see if it changes the static/popping. That will help locate where the loose connection is. The amp is a lot easier to get to than the back of the radio. Without removing the radio you should be able to get your fingers behind and wiggle the wires a bit. I bet you have a loose connection either at the amp like truonghthe said or at the back of the radio.
