Steering Wheel Wobble
Steering Wheel Wobble
I just got back from a trip and on the way back I was noticing that light braking at highway speeds my wheel wobbled(i just like that word and it's a good description) back and forth until I either broke harder or let off.
The tire pressure seemed fine although I have to check it again when I leave to get a better cold pressure reading.
I did get new tires, exact same OEM Michelin's that came on the car. I'm thinking the place that did it didn't balance them properly. Don't want to go back there though, if anything I'll bring it to Acura
Any input on anything else I should check before I make that call over to the dealer to check my alignment and balance?

It sounds like it could be slightly warped brake discs/rotors if it only happens under braking. If it's slight warpage and the rotors are thick enough, turning/machining them should fix it. Otherwise, new rotors will be necessary.
Time to get new brake pads?

I actually just brought it to the dealer before I left and said check the brakes. Of course it was no problem plenty of life left and all that. I'm defineley thinking I'm going to go back to the dealer and let them check it out. I still don't trust my tire guy either he's a little shady.
Actually someone just told me the strangest thing, same problem and in the end the issue was that the lug nuts were overtightened. I'm still trying to work that one out in my head

if the shaking is happening all the time, then it's balancing issue.
If the steering is shaking only when you are braking, then it's 99.9% warped rotor issue.
If the shaking is moderate, then you can just grind the rotors, but if the shaking is pretty bad, then you have to replace the rotors.
When you replace the rotor, make sure you also replace the pad as well. Used pad that has been used with the warped rotors will cause warping again on the new rotors.

Get new pads if you get new rotors.
