Starting Problems
Hello Everyone... This thread is not in regards to my TL but to my best friends 2006 Acura TSX. One morning the car would not start, yet made this clicking noise, the lights inside were flickering so we thought it was the battery. We jumped the car, went to Autozone and they told us that the battery was good, but there was a low voltage on it to check the starter. The next morning it started, slowww, but it started. She then went back to Autozone to see if there was enough battery voltage to check the starter. They said the battery was only about 54% after the car was running for over 20 minutes. He then pointed out that the wires that leads to the positive cable where the terminal is has wires sticking out of it and that it was the problem. So my question to all of you is how can you fix it, is it a DIY? or is it a Dealer issue? How do you replace it? If there is anyone that can help me out.. Thanks!!!
pictures of the wires coming out, please.
kinda hard to know what we're looking at via text.
I believe you're talking about the positive or negative battery cable.
depending on the condition, it can be fixed.
or it might just needs to be replaced.

It's a little hard to tell from that pic, but it looks like the battery cable is pulling away or separating from the connector that ties down on the terminal. Also the insulation that covers the wires should not be split and exposing the wires. Any chance you can take or post a couple of more shots from differing angles? Doesn't appear to be an OEM cable or it was and someone has already done some mods / repairs that are now failing.

I'm going to venture a guess and say there was a decent amount of corrosion on the clamp and/or wires - perhaps enough that it wasn't salvageable. So instead of replacing the entire cable, the OEM clamp was cut off, the insulation was stripped back and the exposed wires crimped on to the clamp in the picture. It has probably worked for a while, but as mentioned above the wires are now pulling (pulled) away. She is having trouble starting her TSX because there isn't enough current getting from the battery to the starter and the battery is weak because the alternator isn't able to get enough current back.
Doing this (shortening the cable length) takes some of the normal slack out of the cable but should still work if they didn't take too much off. From what I can see in the picture it looks like it could be redone in a couple of minutes with a couple of wrenches and electrical tape. No need for a dealer or even an independent shop.
