Starting Problems

Now what I've had happen about twice during the last couple of months is that the key wouldn't turn!! Last week tried turning a few times - wouldn't budge. Pulled key out, waited a second, put back in and turned with no problem.

What the F**k is that all about?? Scared me for a moment.

The amount of start time required depends on a lot of things. What ol buddy said about the gas and the temperature is one of them, another thing is the immobilizer. The immobilizer is that anti theft device that your cars are equipped with that wont allow the feul pump to operate unless it recognizes your key in the ignition. When your key changes temperatures or gets wet for instance, it changes the tolerance for that chip in your key. Sometimes it takes the computer longer to verify that it is indeed the right key. This make sound like FRENCH but Isuggest waiting a few seconds after you turn the key to ON before you crank it. Even in the manual it tells you to press the gas pedal if it acts like it doesnt want to start.

I am having starting problems as well, the dealer told me I had too much metal on my key chain. I did not buy this answer. I took it in and they tested everything and found nothing.
Has anyone had their problem solved by the dealer?????

Actually i had this EXACT same problem with my 2000 accord Coupe (which i had 2 of so both cars had the exact same problem). the honda dealer said it was a known problem and had a simple valve replaced and it worked fine. I cant seem to remember the problem but it sounds exactly the same. It stopped happening after honda replaced it.

ditto (05 a/t) Usually take me a second try if im starting up the car the first time for the day. And if i try again, it makes a poping sound when the engine starts up. After that it starts up fine for the rest of the day.

This problem was on my 99 tl. Never had it on the 01 CL... I do not buy the temperature or chip tolerance bs... It happened more on my TL when it sat for a day or two and during warm to cooler seasonal changes.

Often times the dealer is grasping at straws since they haven't got a clue themselves at what might cause a problem. It's tough to isolate since the tech is not driving the same car day in and out and seeing this issue first hand. They have to rely on engine codes, etc.

Sure there are subtle differences in how all the cars components function. But this seems to have been an issue on this engine for a number of years.

I hope this thread is about the same problem that I stated experiencing just recently. Not sure if it is weather related, it is kind of cold right now in Los Angeles, but I have 2006 TL which I bought in April of last year. I did not have any problem starting the car and the car would start after I turn the ignition key on the first try. Now 70% of the time when turn the key on the first try I here a static sound from the ignition box and the car does not start. I would normally here the sound if I start the car and then turn the ignition key again, by accident. I have two try couple of times before the car starts. I talked to a service rep at the dealership and he said that Honda is aware of the problem, but there is no fix for it now.

i do the same, and have done the same for all my past cars. fires up every time.

I tried letting the fuel pump prime but it doesn't seem to make a difference for me. This is the first Spring/Summer with the car so maybe it is ULEV. I was thinking about replacing the fuel filter though in case that is causing any trouble.
