Starting issues on 04 auto TL

Just recently I'm having issues with starting. I turn the key and nothing...I mean nothing. Just a slight click noise. Try again, nothing. Pull the key out, put foot on brake, try again, and voila, starts right up. Tested the battery and it's fine, cables look clean, etc. And it's totally random, I can go days without the issue, then it starts doing it again. Any suggestions?

Corrosion on terminals and/or cables. Check the following:

1. Wire from the alternator to the battery.
2. Wire from the battery to the starter.
3. Negative battery terminal to ground.

Make sure to check both ends of these cables and the length of the wire. Also check the battery terminals for corrosion.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade these wires to more beefier, heavier gauge wire. This is what they call doing "The Big Three".

Finally, have your battery checked simply because bad connections could cause your battery to fail prematurely.

If you don't mind... post your findings, please.

I had a similar problem with my Tiburon and it ended up being the engine crank position sensor.

^ That's impossible. The Crank Sensor tells the computer what position it's in so the computer knows when to fire up the coils and send power to the spark plugs.

A bad Crank Sensor will not stop your car from cranking. I think your Hyndai dealer pulled a NY special on you and charged you for a CPS when all he did was replace your battery cable

That's how my starter died. I ran errands one mornng and it took a couple of tries to get it to start. Then I went to dinner that evening and couldn't get it to crank. Not even a click. The accessories would all shut off when I went to "start" but nothing from the starter. I took the lug wrench from the trunk and smacked the side of the starter a couple of times (its right at the top of the trans and easy to get to from under the hood). Started right up then. I had to do it again when I left work that night. Check out my other posts and it should have some part numbers. Advance Auto had one for $120. HTH

Well, called the dealer here in Portland today, told to swing it on by. They checked it out and told me that my starter is shot. They'll put in a new one tomorrow, free thank God. This is covered under my Acura Certified pre owned warranty....that's good one year after my factory warranty. But of course no loaners avail, of course, that's why I'm going in tomorrow....if I can get it started

I thought the old smacking the starter with a hammer doesn't work on starter's anymore.
