Starter Replacement 2006 base Tl auto

Went to replace the starter since I was getting the occasional “click” when trying to start. I looked at the videos online and the ones I saw for the 2006 had removing the battery, battery tray and accessing the starter bolts from above.
When I took the battery and plastic tray out there was still a wire bundle connected to the metal tray and no way I could reach to bolts underneath the metal tray to remove it.
Looking for the procedure that goes at the replacement from the bottom. Have a friend that has a lift. Thanks in advance for the input. John

You don’t really need to remove the tray, just the plastic battery box. The mounting bolts and electrical connections are reachable from the top of the engine bay. That being said, you might have to disconnect the coolant lines to remove the starter IF you don’t remove the battery tray.
the tray isn’t difficult to remove, just kind of awkward to get to the bolts on the underside.

Starter

That pic shows the battery tray canted forward. Mine is pointed directly to the passenger side. I don’t think there is enough clearance to remove the starter, even if I could get at the mounting bolts.

i agree, remove the metal try, it will make the job easy also i remember correctly, you don't have to remove the bolt, just lose it and the try will slide up.

Replaced, good to go

My friend, a mechanic with knowledge and more importantly tools, replaced the starter the other day. He said he had to use some long extensions to remove the bolts at the bottom of the tray.
Now to get the old one turned in for the core charge replacement. Thanks for the help!
