Starter problem

I purchased a 07 TL about, 2 weeks later the starter died on me, I tapped on it to get it started took it to my mechanic and ordered a new starter, I had all the fuses and cables checked, about 3 days with the new starter and I again couldn't start the car. again tapping on the starter started it up.I was told by the mechanic that it must be a defective part but I'm nervous that it could be something else, like I said there's no corrosion in cables or anything else that I can think of. Any thoughts as to what else it could possibly be

Battery? Bad HFL unit can drain battery. Or it could just be a bad starter again. Not unheard of.

I would have the HFL unit checked as suggested, but if tapping on the starter gets you going, I'm guessing it's not the battery or the HFL. Your mechanic should replace the starter again no charge, assuming he stands behind his parts.

Haven't had that checked yet, I'll look into it and yes he did replace it with no charge

If the starter was from one of the run of the mill aftermarket stores, probably junk. Better off purchasing a new starter, not necessarily from Honda/Acura, but one can be secured from a parts supplier.
RockAuto for example:
New $81-$135
Remanufactured $90-$129

Its could be a number of things. I'd begin with the HFL Unit, Starter, Battery, Alternator, Wiring. Check all of those then come back

-Battery
-Starter
-Alternator
-Bad Wires
-HFL Drain

The wire's leading to the starter has a common problem of becoming loose. Next time it doesn't start, try to play with only the connection and not tap the starter.

So again the new starter that was put in died on me, should I consider buying an original Acura starter will it make a difference? Or am I just wasting my time and money?

- I would at the least ask your mechanic to get the next starter from a different supplier. That and/or ask for him to get an OEM one as Turbonut suggested.
What is your mechanic saying at this point?

You have to find a way under the battery to the starter and squeeze the connection if it has loosened itself. You can try squeezing with vice grips to give it a better grip.
