i am pretty sure mine was just the belt, but i guess they thought they would do the tensioner while they were at it...

when i belt was making noise, i shot it with belt lube and it went right away...but came back every time i started it up on a cold start anyway....

fix

Hi all. I think it's your waterpump. Had the same problem few years back @ 50,000 km.

MORE FIXES

1. HEATING- if you dont get enough heat in your cat then it's for sure your water valve

2. Clicking noise from the front when car is cold in cold temperatures - drive shafts

have fun

arg, i now have it narrowed down to 2 possibilties. 1) service bulletin 08-031 (chirp from timing belt area) OR 2) crankshaft pulley/belt (noise occurs at a cold start and after warming up). hmm how to determine which one it is, oh yea, stealership want $50 to diagnose the problem.

fire it up when its been cold out so you can get it to make the noise, have your drive belt engine cover off and a can of wd 40 standing by or some belt dressing....fire up the engine and while the noise is happening, squirt the belt on the side with the grooves and if the noise stops that is your culprit or in my case the crank pulley....

ten-four. in other words IF the belt dressing 'solves' the chirp, the belt needs to be replaced?
i hope its as simple, i really hope its not the service bulletin issue (08-031) thank you!

well in my case, i would squirt the belt and the squeak would go away for a few seconds and return...i thought it was just the belt, but it ended up being the crankshaft pulley which is what drives the belt....but i would start there, replace the belt and then go from there....the pulley wont be hard to replace either....

service bulletin 08-031 is a total different issue.. squeeky noise on cold start has three resolutions.. first one check p/s fluid level.. if low then find source of leak, fix it.. second one is only if you have no leak with the p/s fluid, when the noise happens spray a little of lube on the belt.. if noise goes away, then its your drivebelt and there is markings on the tensioner, if it is out of spec or excess play or binding, replace it also.. third one is power steering pump.. some might experience p/s fluid overflowing out the reservoir

yes, my chirp occurs after its warm, nothing alters the chirp. this happens at idle and slightly increase until the engine over powers the chirp at around 1500 rpm. the service bulletin is for warrantied vehicles mine, unfortunately is out of warranty by 5,5xx miles (good luck on getting a dealership to do this as a 'good will fix.' thanks for the info!!

print out the tsb and take it in...i dont think you will have any problems getting the fix done under good will...if you run into any trouble at all, let them know you will be calling acura client services to complain about the way you were treated....

i could do that, i can almost bet they will say i HAVE to have a diagnostic test performed ($45) prior to any work being done so that they can be 100% sure the service bulletin is in fact the issue...

i would make sure they are not going to charge you the 45 bucks when it is determined that its the tsb fix...and make sure they put you into a loaner as well as they should without even asking.....

i just got off the phone with a service manager at hendrick acura (Brian) and he told me that they would have to charge me the $45 fee. he also suggested an a.m. drop off that way, when they do the test and if they find out it is the TSB, they can call the district and see if they will grant the 'goodwill' work or not. i then sked for a worst case and he said it would cost out of pocket (ball park) roughly $400, to do this 08-031 service bulletin. holy hell, what to do now....!?!?

they would almost have to do the good will work, i dont see why he set you up like that....if they came back and said yea, its the service bulliten, but we are going to charge you anyway, that would be a quick fix with a phone call to client services....trust me....

glad to see they are doing the work for you!!

I have the same problem, it just started. Only lasts about 3 minutes then goes away, and only happens in the morning. I also have 110K miles on her, so I may just do the 105K service, stealership wants $1020 to do it.
