how long/seconds is the delay engaging into Drive after you shift- does it take a few seconds before its really enagaged and ready to move
Does it do it warm too- on cold start there may be some noise
Are the motor mounts ok- a broken mount will make clunk
It could be a transmission failure symptom too
I would look at the mounts- then get to the dealer for inspection
Being just over warranty they should hook you up- if its trans-
gen2 has a bad prob with them and got a court ordered 109k miles warranty- the prob continues in 04 05 models

noise is normal, it is the transmission disnganging and engaging. The only thing that keeps your car in Park is a 1/2 inch of metal, and that has a lot of stress on it when it is put into place, when it disengages, it pops out due to the stress. Here is how to stop those noises:

Car in drive-> neutral->parking brake up all the way -> let of brake -> then back on brake -> put in park.

This way the weight of the car rests on the rear brakes and not the transmission. When going into drive, do this:
Car in Park -> to Car in Drive/reverse -> parking break down

Not all noises are normal- to eliminate if its pressure on the parking gear
ON a level street with the park brake off and the car in park-
foot on regualr brakes- start car- wait 30 seconds- put in drive
listen
then move from n to d several times- with foot on brake
noting if the noise or time to engage or anything changes

Dismissing a trans noise without investigation is a recipe for failure

OH, but I would recommend a COMPLETE transmission flush...really helped my tranny out; shifted back and forth better out of park, etc and helped it shift better

I have the same issues. Brought it into the dealership and service advisor affirmed the issues. They said it was the transmission mount and it would be replaced under warranty.
