Squeak from supension

Hey guys!

I'm new to the site and this is only my second post. I have an 08 TL, which I've modified. I'll post pics soon!

Anyway, I dropped the car last week and now have a squeak coming from the front suspension. I had to remove the control arms to install the kit and new shocks. I assume the squeak is from the control arm pins. Is there anyway to lube these or rid of the squeak without having to remove them?

If I remove them again I'll have to align the car, again, which I don't want to do.

Thanks in advance for your help! I look forward to getting to know everyone.

I'm sure someone will have some answers for you. In the meantime, welcome! I just installed Eibach springs on my front suspension tonight, and I'm wondering why you had to remove the control arms.

It's hard to say it's ur control arms. It sounds like it could b ur axle, try doin this first jack ur car up n put it in neutral hav a partner to steer da steering wheel left-right n try n c where exactly is da squeak coming from, also try spinning ur front wheels while it's in neutral...while ur under there u should put sum lube on ur bushings. Hope this helps n fixes ur problem! Let us kno if u find wat it is! G/L

Hey, thanks for the responses!

We had to remove one control arm on the driver's side front. The shock mount wouldn't come out easily for some reason so we had to twist things around to loosen it and the only way we could do that was to unbolt a control arm to give us room to maneuver.

We also had to remove some control arms in the rear, but I'm having no problems with noise from those.

From the sound of it, though, it's coming from the shock support bar. I think I'm going to have to remove the bolt and then grease it. Any other idea what the squeaking may be? It's faint like a mouse squeak.

Thanks again, everyone!

Hey D-DUBZ,

I tried the steering and lubed the bushings but still get the squeak. I'm going to remove the bolt to the shock support, lube that and see if it helps.

I'll let you know.

Thanks

FWIW - the "correct" way to do it (remove/replace the shock/spring) is to use your floor jack under the lower arm to lift it a bit. Then the shock/spring will come out/go in easier - still might need to jiggle an tug a little, but it comes out without any real trouble.

Regards your squeak?

Only suspension squeak I ever had was with ES urethane bushings on the RSB; took 'em off and the squeak went away.

Yeah, I did it that way on the right side, but the left was really rusty for some reason, which it shouldn't have been as young as the car is, but oh well.

I don't think it's the bushings because they weren't squeaking prior to installation. I think my only option at this point is to have the dealership pull the bolts out, check for the issue and then lube it all up. That way if they cause the misalignment they'll cover it.

Love your car, btw! How much of a drop did you end up getting on the HR's and was the drop even all the way around?

I didn't figure it was your sway bar bushings. That's just the only "squeak" I've had, so I'm not sure what yours is from.

My mods here (just basic bolt-ons): https://acurazine.com/forums/garage/...Bearcat94.html

I talked to a guy today who said his sway bar was making the noise over bumps. He applied rubber gaskets and it stopped. Could be possible since I had to remove it. Have you heard of any TL's having sway bar squeaks after shock and spring installations?

Well, yeah, that's very similar to mine, but mine was in the rear.

Right after putting in springs, I noticed a "squeak" when coming over the curb at the end of the driveway - the car kind of twists a little as you back up and turn and go over the curb.

I had used Energy Suspension red urethane bushings. After living with it for a while, I decided to go back to the supplied Progress bushings - more out of fear of the mounting braket weld weakness (documented in other threads), than because of the squeak.

BUT as soon as I put the supplied Progress bushings in (with the supplied grease), the squeak went away.

Again, this was on my Rear Sway Bar, so I'm not sure if it really the same issue you are having or not, but they sure sound a lot alike.

@dessmith hey btw wat kine of springs n shocks did u install, also how low was ur drop. And is da squeak coming from just da driver side or passenger or is it both of them. Also did da squeak happen rite after u installed it or was it after u got a alignment. Jus need a little more info-if u did drop it pretty low maybe u need a camber kit. I have H&R race springs 2.0F/1.75R n I was riding on stk shocks which is very stupid n I had some squeaky noise to in da beginning, after that I upgraded to koni yellows which made a difference, n then da squeak was still there it wasn't that squeaky as b4, so I went to get alignment tech man said he couldn't do it, he only could adjust toe-in etc. So I got sum ingalls camber kit put it on got a alignment n then a miracle squeak went away, if not it could b ur control arms bcuz u took it off. I'm not saying this could solve ur problem but I hope it does if not, sorry my advice couldn't help. Keep me posted cuz there's AZ threads abt this n everyone has a different awnser! G/L man

It's an Eibach Pro Kit, 1" drop. Since I last posted I haven't heard a peap from the car, so I don't know if someone secretly lubed the screws and joints while I was asleep or if it just decided to quit on its own.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks everyone for your help!
